“Right now, from top to bottom, I think the Horizon is probably a little bit better than our league as far as basketball is concerned, with the success of Butler and Cleveland State,” IPFW men’s coach Dane Fife said. “On the other hand, we’re not far off."
A "little" better? Not far off?
IPFW has a serious hard-on for the Horizon League ... worse than Ronald Miller desperately trying to be cool by buying Cindy Mancini.

I am launching my second "Just Say No" Campaign. Several of you joined my first campaign shortly after our Sweet 16.
JUST SAY NO TO IPFW.

IPFW would fit great in the Horizon League when it comes to travel.
Does anyone know, is the Horizon League looking to add more schools? I only hear them wanting better TV deals for basketball.

And it's right there in terms of facilities, too, with the brand-spankin' new Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, home of the NBA's Fort Wayne Pistons. The arena's 13,000-seat capacity is only about 13 times what the Mastodons require.

I would only be in favor of adding them if a team left the league, if Youngstown State left they would be a solid replacement with a better chance to become a competitive basketball program.

When and if Youngstown State leaves and no replacement more suitable than IPFW can be found, I would advocate keeping the league at nine teams. That would improve by more than 20 points the H League's average RPI per team -- from about 150 to about 130.

Maybe, but scheduling will be big consideration amongst the remaining schools left if somebody were to leave the conference. Non-con games is hard enough as it is for us adding 2 more non- con games to schedule might not be popular. Also I like the setup for conference games right now going to 9 teams would change that.

Great points!! If I had to pick one school to stay at 10 teams in the HL, I would pick IPFW over Youngstown State.

Anyone know if IUPUI or Oakland are looking to leave the Summit? I'd like to see either of them before IPFW. And they'd have natural rivals with Butler and Detroit respectively.

Oakland is a good call, I would like to see that happen.

New HL website: horizonleague.org/They also now use the new Panther logo that just says "Milwaukee." I would also rather stay at 9 teams than bring up IPFW. Oakland would be a solid choice.

I would like to see Oakland get a bigger home first; 4,000 capacity? There's a reason we're not playing in the KC as of today.
The O'Rena (Oakland's home) opened with their move to D-I. If they want in to the Horizon League, they'll need to at least increase the size by 1,000. That's not because of the rule, I just don't want our teams playing in arenas that small.
But let's take a step back here. Five years ago, what team was seriously, openly talking about the Horizon League as a destination? We may not have a perennial two-bid league (I think it's coming soon), but people see us as a destination. That has to count for something.
Northern Kentucky, IPFW, Oakland, these schools may not be the cream of the crop or even the schools we'd choose to join the conference, but they all actively want to join the Horizon League. That adds value to our conference, in my opinion, when schools talk about wanting to be in our conference.
