Let's try to make some noise tonight.
Wyoming has a 9-4 record but they are not a good road team. The beat UAB by 6 at home and then lost to them by 21 on the road four days later.
The only road game they've won was against Colorado a 3-9 team and that was only by six.
A loud crowd could help alot.

It's going to be a small crowd. Many of the students are gone on winter/christmas break and the alum will be not as many because the team has been losing.

Wyoming is a solid team, beating them would be great. I fear that Ewing could go off, hopefully one of the guards steps up and keeps him in check.

You have a right to your opinion and this is a forum and you can express it. But if you want the program to succeed I suggest you consider whether or not helping to create a negative attitude at every turn is the best way of supporting UWM athletics.

Milwsport, you took the words right from my mouth.
As for the game I am not sure if this one is going to be too pretty to watch but I will be their watching it. I agree that Ewing could have a big game tonight. Not sure how much of a three point shooter he is but based upon our perimeter D he could become one for the game. Looks like he gets to the line a lot which means lots of fouls which has already been a problem for this team.
There is always a chance for a win thats why they play the games but I think we lose by about 10 tonight. Hopefully we see some more improvements from some of the young guys and a decent shooting percentage.

I'll be there for the first time in 3 or 4 years along with one of my alum buddies who rarely goes. That'll make 2 extra people that don't normally make it. T

I already had plans to bring someone to the game who wouldn't normally go. But after reading your negative post, I'll now be devoting the rest of my free time this afternoon to recruiting as many of my non-UWM friends to attend as possible.

Please, spare us your sanctimonious attitude. Can you please explain to me how he's creating a "negative attitude" by stating FACT??? It WILL be a small crowd tonight due to Christmas break and the fact that the team sucks this year. The truth hurts sometimes, sport. I've read countless of your rose-colored, spin everything to the positive posts this year and it's getting a bit nauseating. Does this mean one who thinks the team isn't very good this year isn't a real fan? Does it mean if one thinks they're bad this year that they won't improve next year? It's called viewing reality as it stands today. So quit lecturing those who are taking this year for what it is.

you beat me to it 97! i couldn't agree more. anyone who believes the program is going to take a step backward because 5 people on a discussion board are discussing how bad their team is needs a reality check.
here's the reality... this team is bad, may not get much better this year, and we're going to lose a lot of games. that doesn't mean dedicated fans will stop supporting their school. and let me underscore DEDICATED. lord knows our apathetic students jumped ship after the first game and that's worth being a little upset about. you'd think 4 years of quality basketball would build a little tradition but apparently not. either way, i'm still paying for my season tickets regardless of the awful basketball being played on the court and i'll do the same next year and the year after that... i also have some faith that coach Jeter will build the program back up by getting quality 4-year recruits.
wish i could put a rosy spin on this year's situation, but it is what it is... a major rebuilding year. and for a midmajor program that typically means some not so good basketball.

...well said 97. I sat through every game over the last 20 years or so and without fail these winter break games have the lowest attendance. For example, here's last year's attendance figures:
UW-Milwaukee (22-9,12-4) -------------------------------------------------- Nov 15 at Memphis............. 52-79 L 10165 Nov 21 UPPER IOWA............. 93-64 W 2736 Nov 28 at Tennessee Tech...... 67-72 L 2612 Dec 03 SAINT LOUIS............ 82-71 W 4235 Dec 06 at South Dakota State.. 76-51 W 2121 Dec 10 HAWAII................. 58-52 W 4325 Dec 15 at Wisconsin........... 68-74 L 17142 Dec 17 UW-GREEN BAY........... 80-60 W 5354 Dec 21 OAKLAND................ 83-60 W 3210 Dec 27 at Wyoming............. 84-69 W 5298 Dec 30 at Montana............. 78-74 W 7213 Jan 02 CLEVELAND STATE........ 75-68 W 3153 Jan 05 at UIC................. 68-45 W 4008 Jan 07 BUTLER................. 64-59 W 5512 Jan 11 LOYOLA................. 78-75 W 5133 Jan 14 at UW-Green Bay........ 77-84 L 6495 Jan 18 at Detroit............. 72-71 W 2386 Jan 21 WRIGHT STATE........... 61-54 W 6637 Jan 26 at Youngstown State.... 78-70 W 2082 Jan 30 at Loyola.............. 68-57 W 2569 Feb 02 at Wright State........ 54-59 L 6595 Feb 04 at Butler.............. 60-63 LOT 7101 Feb 09 YOUNGSTOWN STATE....... 98-57 W 5324 Feb 11 at Cleveland State..... 86-57 W 2074 Feb 15 UIC.................... 86-94 LOT 4564 Feb 18 MISSOURI STATE......... 63-72 L 6660 Feb 21 DETROIT................ 76-57 W 5206 Mar 04 LOYOLA................. 80-66 W 7502 Mar 07 BUTLER................. 87-71 W 10021 Mar 16 vs Oklahoma............ 82-74 W Mar 18 vs Florida............. 60-82 L 13777
Even during a winning season, home games over the break were about half the rest of season attendance. Do what you can to bring in new bodies, but don't expect a decent crowd over the break for a team that doesn't have it together yet.

Yep, I agree with what you said. I'm very optimistic about next season and think UWM could go back to winning 20 games. But this season is what it is. Putting some fantasy-land spin on what's happening this season doesn't make you more of a fan, it makes you look delusional. I'm just fed up with someone's loyalty or passion for UWM basketball being questioned by stating the obvious. What, did milwsport somehow become the conscience of the board or something? Sorry, I didn't get that memo.

97, I couldn't have put it any better myself. I'm a lifelong UWM fan and this team really reminds me of the end of the Ric Cobb era, not good. That being said, I fully expected as much. With the losses from last year, there was no way this team was going to compete for the upper half of the HL. At the same time, with the talent RJ is bringing in, and with his continued maturation as a head coach, this team will be markedly better next year.
This year, we rebuild. Next year, we hopefully get back to at least competing for championships.

Let's call this a transitional rather than a rebuilding year. You might call it a matter of semantics, but I'm not at all convinced that many of the current players will see anything more than a supporting role in the coming season.

I disagree and am calling it how I see it. Also, unlike I (and many others) did this year, I'm not going to rely on any of the new players producing until they prove their abilities. Gentry and Franklin aren't even half the players I expected them to be this year. That's not to say they won't develop into fine, possibly outstanding, players, but to expect any "new" players to immediately carry the torch has proven unwise.
