i mean this is the best opponent we have had at the cell since......... Huh? We've had at least one team in the Cell ALREADY this year that is better than UAB. (Washington State) And neither of those two compare to a consensus #15 Butler team that currently has more Top 25 wins than anyone else in the country. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/rankingsindex?pollId=null&weekNumber=8&seasonYear=2007Plus I think Panther920 meant we've never faced a HIGHER RANKED opponent at the Cell since... ever? All I know is we played GREAT tonight. I've never had so much fun at a game since I rushed the Arena court 9 1/2 months ago while home on R&R. And I'm not just saying that because this was only my second game since then, either. We actually looked GOOD, and had a will to win!

Milwaukee coach Rob Jeter on the win
"I think the big difference was the passion, the heart, the effort ... the guys coming off the bench that hadn't played many minutes. Guys, for 40 minutes, were giving everything they had. We got to the free throw line down the stretch and that was the difference. These two young men to the left and right of me (Avery Smith and Kevin Massiah) were a big part of that."
Jeter on the difference in UWM's performance tonight
"When you're taking lumps, you just get tired of it, and eventually you just kind of get together. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and I hope that we're getting stronger. What I like about this group is that we've entered each game and each practice with a sense of togetherness, and we're just still searching for answers. We're looking for bodies and people to pick us up. I think, for the first time in the long time, we had four guys in double figures. We did enough down the stretch. We kept our composure down the stretch for a young team."
Jeter on getting his team off to a good start
"We played a half, a complete half, I thought. There was a stretch in there, but we go in up at half, and then we come out and withstand one of their runs. That's one of the things we've been faulty with this year. Teams make a run at us and then we back down and we're on the back end of that. Well, we answered again, and that's what I'm proud of with this group, we answered the second run. Then we were able to hold them off down the stretch.
Jeter on keeping his team on track despite seven-straight losses
"I wish I could say we came up with something. Basically, we're trying to grow up as a team, we're maturing as a team. I've been telling my guys over the last three weeks that our movement on offense is better, we're catching the ball in the right areas, and now we have to make shots. We made shots. I thought, with Wyoming, the way that their bigs were really aggressive and their guards were switching, I thought it was going to give us some driving lines with Avery and Kev attacking the glass. I thought we could get some penetration and some easy buckets. We just wanted to keep pressure on them. We have to get back to making people uncomfortable on both ends of the floor and create more opportunities. The only way you are going to create more opportunities offensively is to get to the free throw line."
Kevin Massiah on getting a win
"Basically, it's like coach said, enough is enough. It just came to a point where we just have to get things done. Coach has been positive all year and has been believing in us, and we just have to get it together and believe in ourselves."
Avery Smith on his offensive play late in the second half
"I just tried to stay aggressive down the stretch. Coach called my number a few times seeing that I could get to the rack. I just tried to keep being aggressive coming off the ball screens, especially at the end."

It's really amazing how other teams can watch our game film, know Avery is going to attack off the dribble, and can't do anything to stop him. His first step blows people away, and I think he's got a chance at first team All-Horizon.
That was a fun game last night, and a lively crowd, i can't wait for Sat.

Exactly right. No one needs to be reminded of the record this team has. No one said we'd have a huge crowd. There was a post encouraging those who come to make noise. It's always been a struggle to put butts in the seats. Fan bases are built one fan at a time by lots of people encouraging others to come to games on the net in person at bars, at work etc. Posts that say "no one cares and no one will come" do not do that, especially when they are put on a fan board. That is not rose colored spin, it's FACT. Tonight's game was a good time. They played hard pulled off the upset and for much of the game they looked like they finally got it. IF they can build on that Saturday's game should be interesting. That's not rose colored spin either, that too is a FACT. sporto, do you have anything resembling of a point in this little rant of yours? UWM will start drawing 6000 fans again next season when they're better. Wins=attendance. You're not splitting the atom here, it's pretty simple to understand. And since the squad simply isn't very good this season, they will not draw as many fans as they have in the past five years. That's all raar was pointing out. You may not like this, but it's reality. So once again, I ask you to knock off your "I'm a better fan that you" crap simply because people point out things that are patently obvious to everyone except for you. Go Panthers.

I really don't think thats where milwsport was going with that. That was a response to an earlier negative post. He's just trying to be positive and motivate others to be so.
Were all pulling for the same thing here, wins and a big crowd.

Agreed Pantherdon...I honestly do not think that was Sport's intention. He has the right to try and be positive about our current situation, just as others have the right to be negative if they so choose. After awhile, it gets tiring, especially when references are made to coaches who are long gone. We have what we have, we must play the cards we have been dealt with. We are all fans...let's just support our team.
On to Butler...and a win.

I think that Avery has a chance to be a second-team all-league and second-team all-state Division 1 performer if he continues to play to his strengths, play hard defensively and involve his teammates in the offense. In short, he was absolutely outstanding last night and really seems to have found a niche as an energizer off the bench. He earned every one of the 32 minutes he played last night. As for all-league honors, I think that the front-runners are A.J. Graves, Othyus Jeffers, Blake Schilb, Dashaun Wood and Quin Humphrey.

I didn't say WSU because UWM played UAB after they played WSU.

Man, the game was great.
Yes, 2-for-1 is in full swing. I decided to have my unofficial birthday party at the game. I turned 20 on the 26th, and all my friends who were in town and I all went to the game. Three UWM students, one high school student(and 2007 Panther!), and one sophomore Badger went to the game. In case you were there, we were all over Daaron Brown the entire night. (HE'S SOFT!)
Not only did we have a good time, but we created a fan from an enemy. My friend Andrew, red and white to the bone, was partly converted last night. He bought a UWM shirt (proved to be a moot point, as he got one from the cheerleaders as well) and spent the night reading up on UWM basketball over the last few years. Amazing what an entertaining game can do for your fan base.
Oh, and by the way, if you didn't know - Daaron Brown, #40, is SOFT. He's SOFT.

Yes, it was a good game to build a little confidence and they showed some good things...moments where they looked like a real team. Hope they can keep it rolling. I just wish Jeter could settle on a rotation.
I was also impressed by the attendance. I would have never thought there'd be over 3,000 fans there. I am happy I was wrong on that one. Although 3,000 fans at a game is still not good. I know, it will take more years of success to build interest and regular attendance.
Go Panthers.
