The t-shirt thing is great......your enthusiasm is fantastic......Don't you think we have outgrown the Horizon and be pushing for a new conference....Conference USA perhaps?

Conference USA is a football-based conference now... located mostly in the South.

which would not make us a good draw for the c usa bc we dont have a big time football team but the coach is sexy! not to mention the travel would be crazey hard on our players. and remeber they student athletes. school and travel dont make a good mix for the c usa teams and our team. its too bad we cant make a push for the big ten. i remeber when penn got in and everyone was pissed bc they wanted ND. ND should of gotten in. plus it would be hard to get into that confrence due to the nature of the traddition and history of each team. plus once again we dont have a big time football team.

ND should have gotten in?! GMAFB, they'll NEVER join a conference because their football team draws a 10 million dollar annually tv contract that the school doesn't have to share with ANYONE.

I would personally like to see UWM begin a push to the Missouri Valley Copnference. If the MVC pulls in UWM and maybe a Butler or UWGB, it could begin to transition to a major mid-major conference.
If memeory serves, that's essetially what CUSa started as back in the day.

The t-shirt thing is great......your enthusiasm is fantastic......Don't you think we have outgrown the Horizon and be pushing for a new conference....Conference USA perhaps? C'mon guys....you had one great year (and been successful the past couple)....now you're talking about getting out of the league? I'm not going to blame you....I'd like to see UIC get out as well....but don't get ahead of yourselves. Conference USA is not the place to go. The MVC would be good, but you guys aren't close to any of the member schools. I'd love to see a new conference form with teams like... UIC UWM Butler Detroit Loyola SIU Bradley Northern Iowa Valpo Indiana State or Evansville or Drake I know, I know....keep dreaming....but right now, Milwaukee does not fit geographically with the MVC....Chicago really doesn't either, but I think Chicago would be a better fit for them (marketing wise).....

Big D is right, we do not fit well with MVC. Not only are we not with them geographically, we simply are a different type of school.
I like the idea of a new conference with the best of the Horizon along with some of the teams Big D mentioned. But I doubt that will happen for quite some time.
If we were to leave, the Horizon league teams that should come are UIC, Detroit, and Butler. UWGB should not come with - its a small school in a small town. Loyola needs to upgrade its gym before they could be considered anything but a lower-tier school, but the additional Chicago ties are valuable.
We'll see. I wouldn't be too surprised to see a shake up in a few years.

Conference USA certainly wasn't a football conference and frankly it's a "starter" conference.....if we only aspire to the mid-major we will always be a stepping stone for good coaches....frankly our team is awesome and our school is awesome....both are better than many majors....look at other schools that have joined major conferences since the early 90's and follow their path.....Greatness is a choice....

Actually, geograpichly, UWM, UIC Loyola and Butler fit in quite well.
UWM is only slightly farther North than Northern IA and actually isn't as far east as Indiana State.
I made a map, but have no idea how to get it up here. It's on my pc if anyone cares to see it.
Also,. the MVC is not a football conference at all. The Gateway Conference is the football conference some of the MVC schools are a member of.
The only real issue is the generally urban setting of UWM, UIC, Loyola and Butler in comparison to the rest of the MVC. I don't see that as a total deal killer, though.
The MVC is already decent, but with the addition of the 4 teams I mentioned, it would improve greeatly, and at 14 teams, could split into a MVC East and MVC West. if necessary.

Do you honestly think the board of regents will ok a move to the Big Ten(+1)? No way they allow another state school to rival UW - Madison. (God, I love writing it that way!)
There arent many other alternatives. Don't even say Big East. That's nuts right now. Maybe in 10 years. CUSA is a football conference and not much power left in hoops, so that's out.
SEC, ACC, Big 12. Nope, nope, nope.
What's left but to create a new conference using the proven CUSA model?

There is no way we will ever be in the Big 10. Never.
MVC, yes. MAC, yes. Conference USA, maybe. If a top Mid-major Conference was developed, definitely.
Later, UWMfreak

I agree...though I think the board would approve uwm b/c of the $$$$$$...but Alvarez would never allow it...but I do think that we should aggressively pursue the cusa model...remember SWEET 16

The UW board of Regents will never allow a name change, a change to a major conference, or anything else that would place us on equal grounds with Madison. They want 1 major school, that's UW.
It's only our first Sweet 16 and second NCAA Tourny participation. There are many schools that have 10+ year participating and they are not even close to moving up to CUSA or the Big 10.
