In my case I bit at the first D1 track program that offered. Haha. ;D
And Corfeld certainly is not a "name" coach.
Pnthr30 why did you take UWM?

that is a good point about a player not knowing weather a coach is goingto stay around a while or not... that just turned me off on MD , i was way gung ho for him but that puts questions in my opinion about him, and i think that is the hugest issue taht uwm is faceing right now with future recruits, will we lose major players in the future because we dont have stability in a coach?

I would also vote for Doherty out of the names I have heard thus far. He had success at ND and the N Carolina fiasco was - in my opinion - a fluke. The 'good ol boys' ran him out of town... but look at the shoes he had to fill..... Doherty seems like a no-brainer....

there may not be anything wrong with a coach who has higher aspirations, because in order for him to move on up to another job, he first has to succeed at UWM, pretty soon we will have a solid string of good years and someone will want to stay.
But I can definitely see the point about recruiting and stability.
Next year the coach is gonna have some pressure on him, and MD knows what that is all about, Hunter does not.
pros and cons are in plentiful supply with all these guys, I'm ready to embrace anybody that Bud chooses.

Bill Guthridge wore nothing but expensive Allen Edmonds shoes!! Those were top o the line baby!
Actually I meant it is a general sense of trying to replace the Dean Smith era... i know Guthridge did good but Dean Smith and NC are like John Wooden and UCLA.

Unless we jump conferences coaches arent going to be here long. Theyre either gonna have a strong few years like Pearl and jump ship or get fired cuz we suck. That being said Ill take the recognition of doherty and expect him to be here two years

Exactly Milt
I agree...That is big business
Lets get the best coach we can get for a few years and keep growing as a program and then let them move on.. We owe alot to Bruce for getting the town so damn excited about Milwaukee Basketball...
Bring in the best guy who can get recruits and who can keep winning games and it wont matter who is here coaching..
Go Panthers

I do agree that Doherty did walk into a situation where the expectations were ridiculously high.
But we don't exactly have low expectations for next year, either.

Speaking of replacing John Wooden and UCLA, has anybody been talking about (or with) Steve Lavin regarding our opening? I think UCLA is still paying him, so maybe the money wouldn't be a problem. Besides, the way he got run out of there, he may want to jump back into coaching with a school that would actually want him around. Or are we just assuming that sitting across the desk from Majerus is all he wants to do these days?

Hey Lou
I agree the expectations are high here but nothing like UNC...They had expectations to win a national title
I also think it is important to look at some of the players he was coaching at the time and see if any of them were morons and selfish players....I have not looked back to see who was all on his team, but it would be interesting

I agree that it's difficult to determine the players part but at the end of the day a good coach wins......IMO

From the list that we know of- I would have to vote for Doherty right now.
Not only is he a great coach with great connections, it would continue to bring us national recognition. Hiring Jeter won't make news outside of SE Wisconsin.
