I vote for Hunter:
Hunter, whose first coaching job was as an assistant to former UWM coach Steve Antrim, apparently has had preliminary talks with Haidet and plans to meet with him in St. Louis.
"I have a great situation here, Indianapolis is a great city, but if there was a mid-major job I would take, that would be it," said Hunter, who spent six seasons at UWM under Antrim. "And if there was somebody who I would work for, it would be Bud Haidet."
Hunter was a player at Miami (Ohio) while Haidet was the associate athletic director there. Hunter, who coached IUPUI to its first NCAA Division I berth in 2003, said he would continue to impart the up-tempo game in Milwaukee.
"I think my style is pretty much identical to what Bruce did there this yer," Hunter said. "We led the league in three-point shooting, three of the last four years.
The Jaguars were 16-13 this season and are 173-148 in 11 seasons under Hunter. They compete in the Mid-Continent Conference.

I definitely wouldn't have a problem with Hunter.

I vote for Doherty. I would like to hear some of the other names in the pool (Gillen?).

Hunter's last season. Do we want someone who has lost to Chicago State? haha ;D

I second that. It's all about recruitment and national recognition. Winning will come naturally.

The Jaguars were 16-13 this season and are 173-148 in 11 seasons under Hunter. Not a very impressive record in my opinion. Im not sold on him.

I wouldn't hold a huge amount against Hunter based on record. Recruiting at IUPUI is pretty much impossible when you consider you have to recruit agains these in state opponents:
Indiana Purdue Notre Dame Valparaiso Butler (same city) Indiana St.
Plus division 2 and 3 programs. My point is that even great recruiting will only get you so much at a place like IUPUI. I think Hunter got the most he could out that program. I am confident that Hunter could do far more here than ever at IUPUI.

I vote Jeter.
Jeter's recruiting ability in Wisconsin and Illinois is perfect for the team. He does take a knock from many for not having coaching experience, but I still think he has gained the necessary experience from learning under Bo Ryan. This guy is a monster recruiter and if he is half the X's and O's coach we would be in great shape. I'd still be happy with Doherty, or any of these guys. They all seem to have their own upside.

I don't think Hunter would be a bad second choice, but Doherty's the class of the candidates we're looking at IMO. He brings national credibility to the program, and will be the best choice as far as keeping UWM in good shape after next year IMO. He'll leave in a few years if it stays in good shape, but I'm not 100% sold that the other candidates can keep us in good shape from a recruiting standpoint.

Jeter - I do not want to be another training ground for the eventual headcoach at UW.

With the possible exception of Hunter, all of these guys are looking at us as a stepping stone. Bo won't be leaving UW for a while so I believe Jeter would stay here for a few years. Doherty on the other hand will do to us what he did to Notre Dame. He will probably use one season of success at UWM to be leaping pad to a bigger name job, leaving us with no coach again after only one year. With multiple possible job openings in the Big Ten and other conferences after next season I don't see why Doherty would stick around if he made a good run next season with us.

<--- in the pro Doherty camp. Even if he turns around and leaves in 2 years I think its worth it to get a big name coach in here and keep the momentum going.

I'm not completely sold on any of 'em...they each have some upside, but because the bar has been raised the decision is that much more difficult.
From a stature standpoint, Doherty would be my leading vote getter. But he also leaves me with a few question marks.
I'm sure someone will emerge as a front runner, but clearly none has a definitive leg up on the competition at this point.
