i vote doherty. you can find my reasons in the doherty bio thread. i think hunter is very impressive and i would have if doherty wasnt applying. but thats not the case.
just think, we can copy MU and have michale jordan come sit on the bench. just like shaq and wade. its possible!

Gotta go with Doherty for recruiting and national attention purposes.

A plus for some of the candidates is experience at and understanding already of an urban public university (IUPUI, UWM) and its students -- players and fans. Some teachers and coaches who come to UWM don't understand how different life can be for students here, with work and families and mortgages and more, than at a Madison type of campus. And that's why some teachers end up treating us as a stepping stone, too, because they find out they really don't fit or just don't like to deal with what students deal with in life beyond UWM. And if they don't fit or don't like it, it's fine that UWM ends up a stepping stone; you don't want them to stay.
A coach here has to figure out how to motivate student fans to maintain this momentum as well as how to motivate student players. I hope the interviewers are asking good questions about how to do so. A lot of the things that may work at a Madison campus to motivate fans just won't work here. But figure out how to do it, as a now-former coach did, and you can't find a better and more fun (and borderline crazed) fan base.

Right, which is why an assistant at UAB has been rumored to be applying for the job.

I believe IUPUI was lost a lot of seniors from the previous year that may have contributed to having a bit of a down year record wise this past season, which UWM could experience in 2006-07! I like Hunter!

I guess there are twelve people applying for the position, some are even bigger names that Doherty.
It would be nice to see the entire list.

Not entirely sure. I have heard a lot of rumors, but that is about it. A news report states there were about 12...can we list them? Or at least the rumors.

the one concern I have with Doherty is that he took a North Carolina team to its worst record EVER 8-20.
He still gets my vote, purely on national recognition, and major conference experience. As has been stated, we have so many seniors that next year they could coach themselves, so we need a great recruiter, and I think we can all agree that North Carolina today is benefitting from the fruit of Dohertys recruiting efforts.

Just thinking to myself, were talking about the real possibility of a guy that coached at North Carolina coming here to coach
Wow what a change in five years

And a guy who knows Michael Jordan too. But when you list up all the rumored coaches...there is a lot more elite schools, not just Carolina listed. UAB, Virginia Tech, St. Johns, etc.

I could recruit North Carolina. The place practically sells itself. A little different here. I would be more impressed if I had any idea of what Doherty did at ND. But I am too lazy to look it up. So please do it for me, ok?

yes, Lou, you probably could recruit at NC, but this guy actually has, and he brings that with him.
Image if you are a kid getting recruited and you know this is the same guy that recruited Sean May or Rashad McCants, and now he is interested in you. Especially when these guys go pro next year.
Resumes count for something.

You are right about that. I'm not trying to bash Doherty, I am just trying to play devil's advocate in saying that recruiting at North Carolina does not translate into instant success here.
I would very much hope that KJ or Silk would stick around to help bolster local recruitig if Doherty came aboard.

Do you want to go somewhere with such uncertainty? It doesn't take a basketball enthusiast to figure out that MD would be using this as a launching pad back in to coaching. ....... just something else to think about. I still think that MD is a very solid candidate, but as was said before.........each potential coach as his positives and negatives, MD is no different.
