We have a large arguemnt in the house right now on who is the Wisconsin Badgers' biggest rival. Some say Marquette, some say Iowa, others say Illinois. Who, as a state of wisconsin basketball fan, would you say is the biggest rival?
And before everyone jumps on me about how this is a UWM board, oh well. It's just a question. You aren't going to die if you have to talk about the other state schools. Just summer board fun. So what do you think?
p.s. Our biggest rival is UIC, with GB ready to take that crown next year.

Illinois, our games w/ them have more of an impact than one game a year w/ Marquette. For UWM, i'm not sure how much of a rivalry we have w/ Detroit but I think after this year it could really escalate.

If your talking hoops I would say Illinios b.c. the rivalery between the two states is so heated in all sports......Michigan State is a close 2nd at least recently. Marquette gets fired up by the Badger game but I don't think the Badgers think of it as a huge game.
In football I would say it's Minnesota.

I agree w/ aknowsense w/ Marquette, i know my girlfriend only cares about the Marquette game b/c a lot of her relatives are MU alumni while she's a UW alum. for football i'd say Ohio State and Michigan are the biggest for us b/c they're always at the top and w/ how often we've choked against michigan, its made the rivalry more intense. Minnesota is a close 3rd w/ the Paul Bunyan Axe but i don't know many Badger fans who dislike minnesota more than either ohio state or michigan.

As a former Badger, Michigan State is the BB team's biggest rival. Illinois was last year because they were undefeated, etc..., but we HATE Tom Izzo. The hatred started in 2000, when they beat us 4 times, including the Final Four. Since, we broke their home winning streak, we beat them when they had the banner in the rafters, and every game is intense. Marquette is a one-sided rivalry. They get all pumped up for it, but UW fans treat it like another game. We just want to beat them because their fans will rub it in if they win.
Football...a one-sided rivalry is Michigan (they don't consider it a rivalry)
Hockey...Minnesota

basketball-Illinois (i have lived in both states...being from wisconsin i can honetly say the hatred goes both ways they hate us as much as we hate them)
football-Minnesota ( i used to have season tickets and as much fun as it was to beat undefeated ohio st#1....the rivalry for the paul bunyan axe is one of the oldest in the country and means the most to the players
hockey- minnesota ( i also had season tikets for this and nobody likes the gophers)
UWM-i like the rivalry with UIC though it may lose alittle luster with the departure of Pearl...i have always enjoyed the games against UWGB

i got to figure that now that Pearl is gone the HEAT to the UIC rivalry will most likely fade some, but hey at least we get a handshake now, i could see GB rising on the rivalry ladder, most likely since Poor Man's is going to great an even bigger God complex than what he has had after seeing some of the guys that they have coming in there, but IMHO if you are going to be relying on an almost full team of freshman to carry you in a league like the Horizon that will have lots of veteran leadership on many teams you are asking for a very large up hill battle.
as far as UW-Madison goes i would have though the same as many of you that U of I is a big rival for b-ball.
to me i say that it is hard to get an intense rivalry with school that is not in your conference unless it is in the same city, but just my 2 cents
