From my limited research it appears that our naming rights deal expires at the end of 2024. Also that we have option to extend for five years. Needless to say this is really important. We seem to have things rolling now with Coach Lundy which given our history of self sabotage, ie hiring Jeter, Jordan and Baldwin, going back to the Klotsche and the academic ban right after we last went to the dance etc etc....Would be horrible from a public image and recruiting standpoint to go backward. The arena with our signage looks fantastic. Worst case scenario would be going on campus again unless the KC magically morphed into the Gentile Center or Columbia demolished and an on site facility constructed. Back to this, we have a chancellor on the way out, a likely interim chancellor for who knows how long and this could fall through the cracks. The excuse would be the budgetary situation at UWM which is also potentially jeopardizing R1 status. Has anyone heard anything or input on this. How do we lobby that this does not fall apart.

Having the naming rights is nice. I’m guessing the price was a bit lower then than it would be now because there’s no imminent threat of its destruction like there was in 2014 and because the Admirals play their home games there now, making them the team that brings the most fans in (by far).
The UIC Pavilion became the Credit Union One Arena and soon after, they got an invite to the MVC. Having the naming rights is nice, but as long as the Panthers still play the vast majority of their games there, I’m ok with the university saving the money on the naming rights. Honestly, if the arena was owned by the university, I think I’d want them to sell naming rights to bring in that sweet sweet money. That’s just my two cents on this, though.

If there is an option to extend, wouldn't the price have been set?

Ido agree that if naming rights go not the end of the world although would be a negative vibe for program as long as Arena is still our home court and the garbage can high school field house is a rare occurrence.

I wouldn't count your chickens on that. There are developers hatching plans to raze the theater and arena for "better use" in that corridor. We don't know where they're coming from or when they'll be coming, but they're coming for the arena eventually.

In 2014, we knew the Bucks wanted that land and they were doing what they could do get that land and drive the Panthers back to the K and the Admirals out of town. It seemed more likely than not that it would happen. Until something becomes public, I’ll hold back on calling any plans to raze the arena “imminent”. That’s not saying that the Panthers (along with the Admirals) shouldn’t get a backup plan in place if something happens, but it’s not anywhere near as imminent as 2014.

If there is an option to extend, wouldn't the price have been set? Yeah, I suppose I meant beyond the 5 year option. Though if the WCD could get more money for the naming rights after this season, perhaps they could buy out the option? I’m guessing the increased value of the naming rights isn’t significant enough for that, though.
