I do not understand the point of tweeting a new member of the squad without mentioning her name anywhere. This happens frequently.

Stanford is ranked #5 which means Friday's home opener will be against the highest ranked opponent volleyball has ever hosted! If you've renewed your men's basketball season tickets you get in free, just give the person at the ticket window your name. If not, we're running a flash sale for the next 48 hours and tickets are just $4! fevo-enterprise.com/event/Flashsale408

The 2024 season started with an expected loss to #5 Stanford, but Milwaukee acquitted itself well, being swept, but by scores of 20-25, 25-27, and 17-25. The Panthers actually reached set point against the Cardinal, but could not put the set away against a taller and experienced squad from a perennial D1 power. After that close call, Stanford took the final set fairly easily.
I was going to take a shot against the Horizon League's social media team, as they put out a tweet listing every HL team in action on Friday night except Milwaukee, but I saw later that they had also sent out a tweet highlighting Milwaukee's match.
How did the rest of the league fare tonight? Not all that well. Fort Wayne and Wright State won their matches, and the rest of the league lost theirs, and no other league team played an opponent of Stanford's caliber.
The Panthers play Saturday and Sunday in Northern Illinois' tournament, facing Western Illinois Saturday night and NIU Sunday afternoon. Both matches are winnable.

I would think that the team's performance tonight would be a great omen for the year.

I went last night not sure what to expect. I was shocked by the number of people there and the excitement from the student section during the first 2 sets.
Womens Volleyball is much more exciting as a fan than Womens basketball IMO. I was never bored at all last night.
From my untrained VB eye, I would think Milwaukee will be one of the threats in conference.

This preleague slate is interesting. The overall strength of the opposition is impressive. Six of the opponents played in the NCAA Tournament. Two of those got as far as the Elite Eight: Stanford was eliminated by the eventual champs from Texas; Wisconsin got to the Semifinal round before losing.
While navigating that level of competition, the coaching staff is trying to determine the rotation they will use in the league season. One advantage to having a young squad is that as they mature, you have a stronger core of players to build around. As I have frequently observed before, Coach Johnson is perfectly willing to play freshmen who are playing D1 caliber volleyball.

She's gonna be really good it seems.

Following on the home opener, the Panthers played at an MTE at Northern Illinois last Saturday and Sunday. Milwaukee beat Western Illinois on Saturday night in four sets and beat Northern on Sunday afternoon in five sets.
Milica Tomic and Josie Johnson continue to share the setting duties. The scoring in both matches came largely from vets like Maddie Malone and Natalie Schmitting. Transfers like Alexis Lewis and Hallie Cook saw significant court time, and the coaching staff will try various combinations over the course of the non-league season, including freshmen.
Next up the team travels to Texas to the SMU Invitational, to play the host school on Thursday night, Loyola Marymount on Friday, and Weber State on Saturday.
Update: SMU beat Nebraska tonight. The ‘Huskers are in the top ten.
