Went to watch games on Friday night at Mt. Mary. Nice facility was my first thought. First game was a forfeit. Thought Oh no! what a waste of time. Second games impressed with ease Kentrell could score to hoop and beyond. Vinko looked good. Needs to handle ball better but good enough to get some minutes. He must be a pain to play against in practice. Wilson is an Horizon Leaguer for sure, thin and athletic, another dunk master. Dominic Ham as well must be practice nuisance, plays 100%. Every teams needs a Ham. Erik Pratt heated up after missing a ton of shots. Good with ball and getting shot. Looked best in transition.
Second game featured Markieth, Murchison, Fields, Zach Howell. Markieth is a starter on a lot of teams, super athlete. His set shot was going down and used midrange jumper with success. Murchison is young and will need support. He will be a wonderful addition once he plays for real. Clearly didn’t feel comfortable playing in a game dominated by smaller guys with the ball. I didn’t look at that as a negative. He needs structure and coaching. There isn’t any in this league. Of all the bigs Fields has the look. Didn’t play with aggression and that is ok. Seemed content to work on shot. Hope He will be a force in league play. Zach played pretty well. He needs minutes to get going. How to be a shooter off the bench is what he must learn.
These guys like each other. Freeman was all smiles and trash talkin in the stands. Jameson looks to be fit and happy, would have liked to see him play. Vets all were supportive of new guys. That above all else was fun to see.

According to the those with far more knowledge about the matter than me, Simeon will need a lot of hands-on help.

That is apparent but his talent is amazing just watching his shot release and and handle. I saw him play in high school and he played with intensity and focus. This will all be an adjustment for him. I wish him the best.

Thanks for the notes!! Summer is always slow and it's tough to wait for the start of the season, so it's great to hear these early reports. Can't wait for the next!

Well said. Would’ve loved to see BJ vs. Learic but of the two games we did see this is some sound analysis.

Tonight’s games were interesting to say the least. BJ Freeman is a rare talent. What we saw late in the season and postseason was not an aberration. He looks awesome, tremendous shape, improved ball handling and hang time. If NBA scouts were out to see Patrick Baldwin Jr., there is no reason they won’t be there this season to watch BJ. His team with Elijah Jameson was defeated in the championship losing to two newcomers, Langston Wilson and Erik Pratt. Both Pratt and Wilson looked very good. Pratt was on fire and brought out the best in Freeman. They were going head to head at times, fun to watch.
In other action, Kentrell Pulliam had a nice game. Again I was impressed with Vinko. He hit many deep threes and hit the boards. Played with confidence and fire. It is hard to see him getting minutes with this deep roster but he can create some juice when needed. Howell was solid hitting from long range. Simeon Murchison played well. He battled Wilson down low, hit some shots and sets a decent pick. Dominic Ham is crazy hustle guy. You can tell he is a good person and cares about everyone. Like his father Dominic may be a coach some day. He has an edge and will to win.
Finally, in the stands were Darius Duffy and Fields. Learic Davis and Browning were not in attendance. It is going to be a fun season.

I attended last night too. The difference in talent from 2 years ago is pretty incredible.
BJ's offensive game has hit another level. His handles looked a lot better. You can tell he's been working hard.
KP still does all the KP stuff. Hit 3s and had a nose for every rebound. Just love that guy.
Langston reminds me of DeAndre Jordan. Long and athletic. Plays above the rim. Probably not the shot blocker/defensive chops of Rand but has a more all around game than Ahmad did.
Pratt is going to be a borderline starter. Smooth game. Effortless shooter. It will be nice to have his height on the wing. We were too small at times last year.
I'm pumped. We are loaded and this is without seeing what Aaron Franklin and Pierce Spencer can do. Pierce was on crutches with knee surgery but will be back in time for the season.
