Nice win today and bounce back from Thursday's debacle. As GoD said...8 turnovers is very solid. Happy New Years, fellas.

"We made some big shots but it was the defensive intensity over a period of time that I thought won the game for us," head coach Bart Lundy said of the decisive scoring run. "Antoine (Davis) is an amazing scorer, but he earned every one of those 30 points and they were really tough shots. But I thought our pressure and our full-court press wore them down as the game went on and allowed us to go on that run when they got a little fatigued."
"Justin came off the bench today and I thought he really responded to that role," Lundy said. "He made huge shots, he made big-boy plays at the basket and then he stepped up and made free throws."

Pretty crazy that Davis played all 40 minutes without a single rest. Not even subbing out for 30 seconds to a minute. Lol Don't expect him to get ANY rest as long as he's uninjured and in realistic pursuit of Pistol Pete's scoring record.

There will be a huge asterisk next to Davis’ name if he does it with a whole extra year.

There will be a huge asterisk next to Davis’ name if he does it with a whole extra year. Three years without a 3-point shot. In my mind, he'll always be the king. But a record's a record and they want it bad!

This is a great win, and a much better effort than the Oakland game. There seemed to be an energy out of the gate that's been lacking in some of the previous games, but that leads me to my next point...
Did anyone else notice Detroit played man defense most of the first ten minutes when we got out to the big lead? Speaking of coaches being outcoached in a different thread somewhere around here...did big Davis not watch any video of how we struggle against zones?
BJ can be a force when he takes it to the bucket. He's just not a strong three point shooter at this point. I'd rather see him drive or even post up.
Nonetheless, a road victory against someone not ranked at the bottom of the conference is always a good thing - especially when their star goes for 30+ and we haven't beat that school (at home or on the road) in years.

That wound have required Davis to actually get up from his seat and coach. He seemed content all game sitting down with his legs crossed and his hands above his head while the Titans just sort of did their own thing. Totally fine with me if that’s how he’s going to coach! But man, stuff like that really makes me appreciate Lundy even more.

They said on the telecast UDM had won 20 of it's last 21 at Callahan Hall going into yesterday's game. That makes the Panthers' win even more satisfying!

Where was Bol this weekend? Also, Edwards got zero minutes today. Some of those turnovers were Markieth's multiple offensive charges. As a team, the Panthers took care of the ball quite nicely. Bol, anyone? At least I did see him on the bench at Detroit. I could not see him at Oakland, although the Milwaukee bench was not shown much on that telecast. Did Scott Warras say anything about Bol? Anyone?
Edward's only played a few minutes on the road trip, all at Oakland. I wonder if his early season injury is still setting him back.

Panthers hold on to snap six-game losing streak to Titans Todd Rosiak Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
UWM guard BJ Freeman (10), shown in a game earlier this season, scored 23 points to tie a career high Saturday afternoon against Detroit Mercy. Antoine Davis got his points, but UW-Milwaukee got the victory.
BJ Freeman scored 23 points to tie a career high and Kentrell Pullian 20 to help the Panthers withstand a 31-point barrage from Davis and outlast host Detroit Mercy, 84-81, on Saturday afternoon.
Freeman and Pullian combined to knock down 8 of 16 three-pointers in all as UWM (9-5 overall, 3-1 Horizon League) bounced back nicely from a disappointing loss at Oakland on Thursday.
"It was the defensive intensity over a period of time that I thought won the game for us," said coach Bart Lundy, whose team shot 50.8% while limiting Detroit to 43.3%. "Antoine is an amazing scorer, but he earned every one of those 31 points.
"I thought our pressure and our full-court pressure wore them down as the game went on, and it allowed us to go on that run. They got a little fatigued."
Detroit (6-9, 2-2) entered the day having gone 20-1 in its last 21 games at Calihan Hall and eventually fell victim to a 20-4 UWM run in the second half.
Freeman came off the bench to hit 9 of 14 shots including 3 of 6 from three-point range, while Pullian was 7 for 16 and 5 for 10 in a team-high 35 minutes.
The Panthers' third and final double-figure scorer was Justin Thomas, who scored all 11 of his points in the second half. Five of those 11 came in UWM's 20-4 run, with his three-point play putting the Panthers ahead to stay at 62-60.
Davis entered the day ranked second in the nation in scoring at 24.1 points per game and hit 10 of 23 shots overall, including 6 of 13 three-pointers.
But one of those long-range misses came in the game's final seconds, helping UWM snap a six-game losing streak to Detroit.
Panthers junior forward Jalen Johnson hit a runner in the lane with 1 minute 46 seconds remaining that gave UWM an 84-77 lead and put the Alabama A&M transfer over 1,000-point mark for his career in the process.
"I would say that was the biggest shot of the game for us," Lundy said. "When they were making a run, he went through contact, put the ball in the basket. It was the biggest two points for us, and 999 and 1,000 for him."

Tough games coming up. Another split would be terrific. Liked what Vincent did off bench vs Detroit. If we can get 10 or more energized minutes from him and Zach the rotation may be set. Edwards is a defensive liability. Angelo as well but can be an asset vs less athletic teams. The same goes for Baker. Lundy wants to win with defensive pressure and offensive movement. The players that give that energy on both ends will play. Enjoyed Earl Curleton as color guy in Detroit. He seemed very keen on what Lundy is trying to do and liked the squad assembled. The other guy was a homer but so is Scott Warras. We need a color guy.
