How was Goolsby's last night? Any interesting discussions with the coaches? Fan turnout was quite low for our first five-game winning streak in almost a decade, which was quite disappointing. I talked with coach Lundy for about five minutes and he told me a lot about Chattanooga and what we can expect to see Tuesday. He said he isn’t sure that Jake Stephens is an NBA player just because of the fact that he’s slower than most centers, but he’s unique because he’s 7 foot, nearly 300 pounds and can shoot from the outside as well. He mentioned to me that we might have to sacrifice some baskets inside for him in order to guard all of their shooters. He said they play quick, but not as fast as us as well. He and coach Cooper were both saying it will be a huge test. I personally think we are relatively well prepared for them after playing ISU and Purdue early on. If we keep the turnovers around 10-15 for the game, which might be a tough ask, we should definitely have a chance to go in there and steal one. As always, Go Panthers!!

If we want to improve fan turnout, we have to do our part as well. Keep getting word out on social media to everyone in Milwaukee, and drum up interest on campus. I know I keep bringing our team up on Twitter, and Lundy is doing the same.

Oh trust me I am one of the most active people in the MBB community on Twitter. And I wasn’t saying it was disappointing attendance at the game, the amount of people who didn’t come to goolsbys was pretty sad. First 5-game win streak in seven years and people take it for granted. Smh

I think its hard to expect people to just drop everything and come watch a still unproven team, but trust me people who never mentioned Milwaukee bball to me in the last decade have reached out to me about this 5 game win streak. I thought the crowd was solid last night and the fact that there is actually some positivity in the arena for a change means its actually fun to go to the games this year. Was gonna stop at Goolsbys but I wanted to get home and watch the fights and games that were on.

I don't f'n know. But 1,300 people for a 7-3 team. I don't expect MU/UW numbers. But 3,000 should be the goal and the building was nearly empty. Cold night. But no snow. And 17,000+ fans just one block north of us a couple hours prior. All the team can do is win. '13-'14 was pretty quiet until the end... Let's not skip past these very fleeting and very significant memories. www.milwaukeepanthertracks.com/2022/12/milwaukee-drops-iupui-74-61-in-front-of.html

I am not overly concerned about the low attendance right now. It takes time to recapture relevance, especially in a market that has several longstanding sports entertainment alternatives. It did not help that the PBJ hype last year had a cry-wolf effect on the potential fan base - fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Also, games against mostly D3/NAIA and lowly mid-majors, or on campus, are not going to excite the general audience, especially early in the college basketball season when we see mostly empty seats at the majority of mid-major and even some high major venues.
I am encouraged by the excitement we diehards now have for the program. Momentum starts somewhere, and this is where. Once we get exclusively into the HL season in January, I hope to see some crowd growth.
But we need a full season of success, and a better home schedule, before we see more fans in the Arena on a consistent basis. Fortunately we have the right head coach to get us there. I just hope he stays long enough and/or his successor will be as good.
Become relevant by consistently winning against perceived quality competition and they will come. Doing so should be supplemented by staff as well as organically to fully capture the growth. Ideas have been discussed ad nauseam on here. For example, I have suggested treating students like season ticket holders rather than second class citizens, starting with re-thinking student section placement, makeup and leadership. There is nothing like a good college basketball atmosphere at a college basketball game. Of course, we need more relevance for these ideas to have a chance to succeed.
Bottom line is we need to be patient and have some fortitude. Continue the good that started in March of this year and it will payoff eventually.

Everyone will agree the team has been entertaining so far and winning breeds winning but the HUGE TEST starts next week The next six out seven games are on the road

What Cactus said...
Looking at the Horizon Attendance "standings" vs the final conference standings in 2019, (given Covid may have affected other numbers and I'm too lazy to look for last years' numbers) attendance nearly mirrors conference standings. Win consistently and people will come. This five game winning streak had half the games occur when many people may have been out of town or paying little attention. It's really been over the course of a week this win streak has occurred. Add on the fact we've played two of the poorest performing conference teams of the last couple of years, and you can't expect a huge bandwagon to appear.
And I'd be willing to bet half the regulars at our games had no idea the last time a five game winning streak occurred and half the students had no idea we were trying to win the fifth of a five game winning streak. Most fans aren't the hardcore fans that are active contributors or readers here.
Winning cures a lot, but it takes time...

There's a thought from inside the program that it would be greatly beneficial for the team to play all games at "the K" for the purpose of student engagement and sharper performance. Reportedly, we rarely practice at the Arena and the lack of reps there directly resulted in our lackluster showing. I've never been pro-Klotsche except for personal reasons, but this gave me some food for thought. I believe that it's worthy of further discussion and so am posting it here.

I'm sorry, but as someone who was in school and witnessed the 2012-13 debacle first hand, that's a ridiculous premise. Marquette doesn't practice at the Fiserv. Hell, the damn Bucks don't practice at the Fiserv! Soon, our team won't be practicing at the K, either. Will the answer then be to play games in the practice facility? Playing games on campus did nothing for student engagement. WINNING does that!!

Thanks GoD for bringing the issue to light. It deserves it's own thread so it does not get lost in the game thread.
BTW, I agree 100% with what SoB stated. Please, let's hope the administration does not get all schizophrenic again regarding our home facility.

My god I hope that's not true. If that's an excuse for performance, it's an absolute joke. If practicing on our home floor is the answer (it's not), they just wasted $10+ million on the practice facility and should have renovated the K to make it an actual D1 quality facility instead.
I definitely would not be renewing my season tickets if they move to the K full time.

Plus, Bart, when he was hired, gushed about the chance to coach in the Arena. He wouldn't be happy at all with a move back to the KC.
Typical Braun, continuing to seppuku our athletic department.

Seems like every time our athletic department makes progress, Braun immediately goes into "how should I f**k this up?" mode.

Typical Braun, continuing to seppuku our athletic department. Be smarter. Bart’s new so I’ll let it pass. I understand he doesn’t know the history of how disastrous this idea was the last time. He’s used to being in glorified high school gyms so it’s nbd for him but it’s a VERY different scenario as a fan.
