Would anyone else like it if we actually filled our student section with people who understood basketball? At the MSOE game, nobody really got into it and it was a little annoying. I’m not sure about you guys, but I’d rather have 30-40 passionate students there than 100-200 who don’t really ever get into the game. Really hoping this changes on Saturday.. I’m a student and typically I don’t sit in the student section cause the view is obstructed by the basket and band and yes I agree it’s annoying when there’s a bunch of incompetent kids. Last time I sat in student section was vs Youngstown last year and some girl was screaming f*** the penguins the entire game and it was so annoying. you should teach the student section the game

What we had to do back in the day when it was Jimmy, Tommy, Chad, myself, etc. Someone (Jimmy usually lol) had to put the time in to start chants and coordinate a bit with the cheerleaders for cheers. I will say, though, most the time it was the dedicated 10-20 that were involved, but in bigger games or close games the "casuals" would definitely join in as well. But, as we know this is a tired discussion in getting students involved unfortunately for many years. Winning (and free stuff/food) = Student Turnout.

The better look is 200 students. I agree but how good does it really look if nobody cheers? I get what you are saying. It has been disapointing that the students seem not to make an impact on the action. I was more quiet than normal on Monday. I think for myself that is being the KC, compared to my spot at UWMPA. Maybe the players need to force the action towards the students. Meaning when you see players in sports yelling toward that area and waving their arms, saying LET"S GO! We also need some students to lead the way for others.

All I’m looking for is some engagement. Maybe some cheering once in a while. Is that too much to ask out of “fans”? I think if we played every game at the K it would bring in more students and a better atmosphere. . Is that you Andy Geiger?!? You must have not been around in 2012.

I saw Dominic Ham (our Thanasis) try to engage the students on Monday while he was chanting from the bench. That dude is great. Full of energy from the bench. Didnt seem to help much. It comes down to student leaders willing to be the face of the section.

We just need to find the biggest, loudest, most arrogant obnoxious asshole to have ADHD hyperfocus on Panther Basketball and we're fine.

Why treat the students as second class citizens when they are your best shot at creating a special college basketball atmosphere? Why do the same thing just because that is the way it was always done? Earlier this year we had a good discussion regarding apathy. This post may be worth another read for those interested. uwmfreak.proboards.com/thread/7899/attack-apathy

Arrogant obnoxious asshole, not so much. Yesterday in the Purdue game thread you commented you were impressed with the Purdue crowd. You stated they were not this way and you felt respected. I assume you were referring in part to their students. Wouldn't you rather have it that way for us? For everyone associated with the program to be on the same page, positivity is the only way to go. Negativity is a turn off for some.

Students should be right up front and center across from the ticketholders, just like they do at Michigan.
