Jalen Johnson will probably be starting soon imo I’d have to disagree. I have not been impressed other than a few plays here or there. Doubt that

Tonight they took a humbling loss after the huge win last night but I don’t see it as a negative. I saw a lot of positive things tonight that we can continue to build on moving forward. The threes will fall, and BJ Freeman is starting to look like the star we thought he might be. We made some good defensive plays and the hustle paid off on a few occasions. Nothing to be discouraged about as this was a game we were expected to get destroyed in. I’m very excited to see us start playing conference games to see how we match up in the Horizon though.

Solid game. A loss is a loss but it's not the same loss like the past 5 years. This team couldn't hit 3s and the Purdue defense was good.
Take this as a learning opportunity and bounce back

Edey is an impossible matchup for about 99% of the country. He's just completely massive. You collapse on him, they kill you with 3s. You play him straight and he dominates you inside.
Hopefully Keon gets back soon. Curious to see him play. The good thing is we have a ton of playable guys.

I wish we made an adjustment and let him try to kill us instead of allowing them to take 35 threes. He’s soft and got rejected a handful of times. He doesn’t finish exceptionally well around the rim either. He made all his free throws of his small sample size but he hadn’t been a great free throw shooter in years past either.

If you weren't there you can't appreciate how intimidating that place can be for opposing players. I don't think I've heard a Basketball crowd as consistently loud as that one was. I'm sure that had something to do with the shooting.
That being said, the team played hard and they played hard til the very end. The refs were bad at the beginning, calling ticky tack fouls on us while letting the Boilermakers get away with flying elbows, but that's to be expected when you're on the road.
All in all we probably did as well as you can expect for a new team with a new coach playing it's first real game in a very hostile environment.

I've now been to a dozen or more of our early-season buy games and that was the most charged atmosphere I've ever witnessed. For better or worse, the home crowd and team treated us just like they would Iowa, Indiana, Michigan State or Wisconsin. No one in the building ever let up until the final buzzer. You might look at that as unfortunate, but I'd chalk it up as a learning experience.

Edey is an impossible matchup for about 99% of the country. He's just completely massive. I sat second row with Barry and Mort & Co. In the layup line, Edey was 5-7 feet in front of us. I felt like a child looking up at him. Me. I'm 6'7". I've stood next to Giannis. He would absolutely tower over Giannis. And unlike a lot of guys over 7', he is proportional. His shoulders are wider than my ass. His wingspan is roughly the length of a Volkswagen Golf. That last sentence was the only one in which I embellished any details.

Never booed our players once, never jawed with us. Plenty afterward said our team had a lot of fight and defended Edey as best they could expect. I felt respected from the moment we arrived to the moment we got back on the bus. I think that's the thing that really stuck out. No snide BS remarks. The "worst" the crowd got was when they lightly booed a clear foul. I'll root for Purdue in the Big Ten this year.

Here are some comments by head coaches about Mackey Arena as recently quoted in an article by Matt Norlander of cbssports.com:
"When Mackey Arena is rocking, I think it is the best atmosphere in the country. Freshmen basically piss down their leg in that place when it is rocking."
"Loyal, family-type atmosphere. It's really got that basketball nostalgia vibe that comes from that state. And they pack a ton of people into a small space. One of the loudest gyms in the country. It's intimidating."
"Love the old-time feel. The setup is weird and the students behind your bench at weird angles. Always liked that place."

Fortunately, I didn't have the same reaction as the freshmen, but I did spill barbecue sauce on my favorite sweatshirt, Golden Boy!
