I had a brief text exchange last night with Jimmy and I understand that he and his family need our prayers. After much consideration, I decided to put it here so he'll know how much he means to us. The theatrics of the last several years aside, this is a brotherhood and Jimmy is our biggest brother and best fan.

I want to make sure I come on and give everyone an update. My brother Paul passed away last night after spending six weeks in the progressive ICU at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. Between his kidney failure, multiple infections, diabetes and atrial fib, it was an extremely difficult balancing act by the doctors and nurses to try and get him better. They were absolutely fantastic. He had one-on-one care 24/7 from a rotating group of nurses who did absolutely everything they could. He had at least one family member with him every day he was there, and nearly every day I was there to be with him his nurses would end up staying long after their shift was over to take care of him. I can't overstate how phenomenal his care was.
We got the call last night right before 7 that we needed to make our way to the hospital as fast as possible. I left work, picked up my wife and we got there about 8:30 and got to spend the last couple hours of his life at his side. He stuck around and the whole family got to spend time with him before he left.
Do me a favor today and take the opportunity to tell your loved ones how you feel about them. I got the opportunity to tell my brother everything I needed to say to him before the light left his eyes and I wish I had taken the opportunity to tell him a lot more.
I lost my brother by birth last night but you guys are the brothers I chose. I love you all very much and I hope to see you all soon.

my condolences blackpanther on the loss of your brother. its one thing to lose a grandparent or a parent, that happens to all of us as we get older. siblings are a whole other thing. my thoughts and prayers go with you.
