I hope stevek doesn’t read the descriptions under item 3 because his head will legitimately explode at all the inane buzzwords. It’s not English. It’s some weird dialect of academic bureaucratese.

I think the only thing we are winning in these days is adjectives.

Fran, it is all your fault. I am channeling Franz Kafka again, UWM leadership being actually mouse people in the bureaucratic web of the Castle. Talk about a model that facflitates non-accountability and a minion mentality. Nothing personal against this Kelly Haag person but has all the appearances og Goldilocks walking into Brauns office who is the big bad wolf underneath. How would someone with this experience or lack of in this particular area of athletics. Seriously, AB reports to her??? The next athletic director would also or a similiar person? Now it is a bit more clear while athletics is an afterthought and administration just does not get plus it is institutionalized to be the way. I am not sure this is fixable until AD report to Chancellor. On top of this you then have to have a chancellor like Zimpher, Shalala etc that get it. A comp to the corporate insurance world I am part of would be having the VP of underwriting reporting to someone like the Head of Inclusion....nothing wrong with inclusion but you get what I mean. No wonder AB was able to sell her BS vapid Path to Promience. Her direct boss does not know what she does not know and AB is master machiavellian manipulator. To use one of Frans past references from Dickens...I retire to bedlam...or to quote John McEnroe...you can not be serious!!!!!!!!!!

Digmke, I cannot find what you are referencing in the first and second links. Are they still valid?
Anyway, the gist of your post is what we've been frustrated about as Panther fans forever - the bureaucratic nature of an institution dominated by people from the world of academia. Not a lot of practical-minded business savvy here.

Regarding the current reporting structure.....hard to believe this was in place with Bud was here, even Koonce, Costello, Geiger etal....is this a fairly recent thing ie a Mone thing? When AB was hired Geiger and Lovell were at the press conference. BTW they acted like a couple silly giggly ninnies...it was weird. Frankly as it related to atheltics when Lovell was here not impressed with him either to say the least. Santiago was meh...Nancy great

Not a lot of practical-minded business savvy here. Sorry about that....These links should work. I also edited my original post above. Part of the problem that may never be rectified - Athletics reports into Student Affairs. This is not typical for a D1 school AT ALL! Athletics needs to be elevated within the University and report to Mone, even though this is likely not an interest area to him. The person who is responsible for the Student Union is also responsible for Athletics. This is like when we were back in D3 - We'll never get out of the HL! To wit.... 1: "Most athletic directors at the high levels report directly to the president" SEE: www.athleticdirectoru.com/articles/how-do-athletic-directors-and-university-presidents-manage-to-get-along/#:~:text=The%20conflict%20can%20come%20if,10%20years%20ago%20or%20so. 2. "100% of D1 ADs report directly to the President" SEE: scholarworks.montana.edu/xmlui/bitstream/handle/1/2174/sandersc1204.pdf?sequence=1 3. My guess is that AB reported to Chancellor Lovell then Mone changed the reporting structure at some point?! (https://onmilwaukee.com/articles/uwmamandabraun). Kind of sad when one considers Mone's background in industry and business. Per his University bio, "Chancellor Mone is an avid cyclist, athlete and a gourmet cook."
My nephew is a student athlete (baseball) at a D3 school with an enrollment of 5K students. Their AD reports to the President of the University. Many of their teams have a strong history of success plus their athletic facilities are quite impressive. Academics are equally impressive.
Our school continues to have so much potential yet Athletics, generally speaking, remains fairly behind in a weak conference.

Mone has been in academia for well over 30 years and he's been a UWM faculty member since 1989. Anyone expecting Mone to be a catalyst for positive change at UWM will be sorely disappointed.

It's astonishing that Mone is still the chancellor.
Mone's tenure as the full-time chancellor began in December, 2014 and from the Fall 2015 semester through the Fall 2021 semester, UWM had a total enrollment decrease of -16.73% (4,536 students).
The other 12 four-year universities in the UW System had a total enrollment decrease of just -2.30%.
