Thanks for the correction. With my dad and brother both in the hospital, I've missed some things in the last week. Damn. Best to you and your family Jimmy. Thanks. My dad lost his pinky toe and might lose a little more of his foot to diabetes. My brother was in far worse shape. His completely sedentary lifestyle led to diabetes, he lost his right leg below the knee and his kidneys have been in failure since September. A week ago Monday, he was having trouble breathing. At the regional hospital they measure him at 85% oxygen, but they weren't able to hook him up to dialysis, so they sent him to St. Mary's in Madison. When he got there, his oxygen level was at 60% and dropping so they put him under and intubated him. He had infection in both lungs and they were worried it got to the bloodstream. His port had closed and they weren't able to get a PICC line in until late Monday night/early Tuesday morning, so when my family went up to Madison last week Tuesday we thought we were saying goodbye. Since they got the PICC line in, they were able to shove him with antibiotics and get him past that, but it's been a bit of an uphill battle to get him back to breathing on his own. The news we got last night was fantastic, they think they'll be ready to bring him back to consciousness by the weekend. I'm not much for prayers but I was doing it this last week. And if anyone's wondering, since I'm a big fella myself: I don't have diabetes, not even high blood pressure. I get checked regularly. I'm assuming it has something to do with being super tall and at least somewhat active. When it warms up I'm happy to clown people on the basketball court. |
