Lance Leipold made a name for himself continuing DIII UW-Whitewater's tradition of success in the DIII football playoffs, He then got hired to coach at D1 Buffalo.
It took him a few seasons to build a winner in Buffalo, but the last three seasons his program has become a power in the MAC, winning two division championships and playing in three bowl games. It was enough to get him hired as head coach at Kansas. Football is and may always be considered a lesser sport given KU's basketball success, but Leipold has coached winners before.
As a fan, i'm glad to see his continued success.

I had been kind of hoping Jeff Monken was going to get it because I wanted to see the triple option back in the Big 12. Nonetheless, I don't think you'll ever meet a guy who wants tougher challenges more than Leipold.

And now there are rumors KU is talking to the Big Ten. If that happens, Leipold will have walked into a Big Ten coaching job. I wonder if they will have to increase his salary to be more in line with the conference average?

His is ~$200k less than Maryland’s coach for last place but practically everyone else has been the beneficiary of one or more extensions and/or were more highly sought after than Lance.
