So Marquette fires a guy who couldn't win a NCAA tournament game and might replace him with a guy who last won a NCAA tournament game in 2013? K.
Longhorns fans & the administration must be ECSTATIC.

Really thought they might hire Jeter. Right fit in a lot of areas but most notably a great mid major legacy. One game over .500 vs D 1 opponents over an eleven year span. That obviously supercedes some of his challenges in program promotion skills...maybe Indiana?

Sure, if you only look at it that way. Factually? It's not like Smart did anything at Texas unless Marquette is craving a NIT championship. His salary was ~$3.2M so it's not like Marquette is going to be giving him a huge pay raise. Plus, he's been arguably on the hot seat the last 2 years or so.

Marquette is an exquisite life boat for Shaka. If he wasn't fired at Texas this spring, he'd be fired after another disappointing finish next year.

That's fine.

Jimmy, I like it!!! Its like neither Fran or I can let go. Fran with the end of the world happened in March 2016 and lets never forget it and me that we hired Rob after Pearl and air went out of the balloon. Guess its long past time to move on ....

All I'll say about any of this is that it would be wonderful to have a .500 season again.

As a friend just reminded me, it's also possible that he wasn't enthralled with the response of the school's AD or donors to the "Eyes of Texas" controversy.

By the way, I got ten bucks says that if Shaka's coming to Milwaukee, he'll pitch PBS to be his lead assistant.
