Well if you’re right (you’re not) TJO should be sending Senator Taylor flowers and big campaign contributions every year. The luckiest thing that ever happened to him was that he didn’t get to be the coach here under this administration.

Lena Taylor again? You sure? Sure it wasn’t Madison? Or Rob Jeter for only having, by far, the second most successful coaching tenure here in D1? Or what the hell, Bo Ryan for leaving or Bruce Pearl for leaving or Marty and Mickey for not coming? I love the Marty and Mickey reference! I got a chance to see them perform their basketball wizardry at St. Nazianz JFK Prep and Silver Lake College. Later, when I attended a UW-Whitewater game, lo and behold there again was the kid who looked like Jesus in floppy socks playing for the opponent, UW-Superior. Wish I could have seen him against the Panthers at the MECCA. Thanks for the memory!

He should certainly be sending a big bouquet (and a big check) to Mike Daum every year that he's the coach in Ames.

Not going to make excuses for Amanda Braun. The fact is she didn't get the coach she wanted for the program. Maybe TJ would have brought UWM back to the top of the Horizon League. if he had done that Braun would look like a genius and we might be singing her praises. But Lena Taylor would have none of that. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACWfBrCDGgwWhen Lena Taylor got involved and Mark Mone gave in, that is when the program's death spiral started. Ok I watched that video. I am stunned that anyone would say Senator Taylor is somehow responsible for our woes because she questioned whether or not the only Black face in the Department was treated fairly when even people who thought we needed a new coach (like me) would agree that he wasn't. Wow a Black community leader questioning why a Department with a budget in the millions, trying to build support in a majority Black City has only one Black coach who it treated shamefully and no people of color in any other management position. How dare she speak up like that. Yeah let's blame her. I get so tired of this attitude that when people complain about the lack of representation in management or offensive language or discriminatory policies somehow THEY are the bad guys and it's THEIR fault when things go bad.

Call it what you want, everyone knew after Lena Taylor brought the race card into it, that UWM (Mone) was hiring a black head coach.

Please tell me again why we keep talking about Lena Taylor and TJ Otzelberger? He would not have stayed at Milwaukee past one season either (just like Jordan). Our athletic department can't compare to South Dakota State so TJ lucked out.
Maybe the Athletic Department should start with the basics and focus on the perks (or lack thereof) of being a season ticket holder. The perks really don't compare to some of the options offered at other schools. I think the department has to really tap into this and make this an "experience" since we can't use the on-floor play as a sales pitch, just yet.

Call it what you want, everyone knew after Lena Taylor brought the race card into it, that UWM (Mone) was hiring a black head coach. z Oh it couldn't be that the AD made so many public comments disparaging the team that all but one of our players left along with all the recruits planning to come here. It couldn't be that all of the major donors followed them out the door. It couldn't be that after all that most of the people attended the games stopped doing so. NOOOOO none of those things had anything to do with our decline. Cuz we all know the coach we think would've been hired (because he was our choice and we're so smart why wouldn't our choice be everyone else's.), would still be here recruiting lottery picks and taking us to new and ever greater heights. Yup you're right it's clear the actual cause was a Black community leader who in the wake of poor treatment of the Department's only employee of color asked why the Department doesn't look like the community it's supposed to represent. Yup, it's all her fault for pointing out the problem that many people had with the situation. Ok, I'll call what it is. Blaming our problems on someone for calling out poor treatment of the only person of color in a multi million dollar operation instead of the actual causes is RACISM. And if you don't understand that, then I suggest you wasted your money on an education at UWM.

Try to ignore some of what was said, as we need some fact checking. Yet, when did I say our problems as a program are because of Lena Taylor?

Not to jump in here... but I’d say 10 years of employment with a pretty handsome salary is far from “poor treatment.” And I’ll keep my thoughts on Lena Taylor to myself to avoid any accusations of being racist. But the lady can’t even go to the bank without causing a scene and making it all about race.

Thank goodness you guys didn't say anything racist about Senator Taylor. I'm sure our basketball coaches and players appreciate that you have a deep, sympathetic understanding of these issues.
Btw, ironically, anyone using the phrase "played the race card" -- has just played a race card.

None of that has anything to do with blaming her for the program's decline.
