I hope they do a national search and don't promote from within.

We didn't win as much as anyone wanted to in the later years, but Scotty was always more dedicated to the program and his players than I've ever been at anything in my life and I hope the university finds a suitable way to honor his legacy. I know that when I got to school and Jerry Augustine was the head coach, it was really Doffek who was running the show and Jerry was more or less a figurehead. I can't say if that was always the case, but in my near 20 years of being a Panther it's always been Scotty's program.
And in a bunch of years where the team had faltered in the regular season, they were dangerous as hell in the Horizon League Tournament.
Tip the cap to coach, he's forever a pillar of this program!

The team is 1-12 to start the season. I know they lost some key pieces from last year, but that's embarrassing. I understand it's all about conference play, but I don't understand how we aren't competitive. Sure, we don't have the resources some of the top notch mid-major programs do in the Midwest, but there is enough local talent that we should be better.

I hope they do a national search and don't promote from within. Clip and save from last offseason, folks. We needed to move away from the existing regime.

The Panthers are now 1-14 and have an RPI of 253 (out of 305) according to Warren Nolan. Dear God!!!

Can we just wipe the slate clean after the season and do an ACTUAL "national hiring search?!"

This was always going to be a difficult year. Not only did Doffek retire, but so much of last year's lineup is gone. I look at this year's lineup and don't recognize any names from last year. Baseball isn't like basketball; we can't just raid the transfer portal for new baseball players.
I'm willing to give Wegner a real look. The non-conference season is basically exhibition at this level anyways. Let's see how they do in the regular season. They had a nice comeback in the 9th yesterday. I know they ended up losing the game, but this team doesn't seem to be giving up.

My problem is that this program hasn't had any momentum for at least four years despite the opening of Franklin Field, and the AD, in spite of her insistence to the contrary, appeared to search about five feet for Scott's replacement. Am I wrong?

I do feel like Franklin Field should have been a good upgrade for the program. However, they are pretty much starting from scratch all around this year. If there’s no improvement in years 2 and 3, then I’ll question the Wegner hiring a lot more. I’d rather have a hot conference season with a poor non-conference season than a hot non-conference season followed by a poor conference season.
I’m looking forward to getting to Franklin Field, hopefully in a few weeks to see this team. Hopefully they start a hot streak by then.

For the record, the Panthers are now 2-18. They've always been unheralded, but I'm afraid that they've fallen into oblivion before the first home game has even been played.
