Do we have to start treating the HoriZone Roundtable like Legitimate Sports Journalists tm now? 🙂 I feel personally attacked There was no intent to attack anyone personally. Just some good-natured ribbing....

I've been enjoying the Coaching Carousel thread under Other Teams on this board. When I started wandering the web after hearing the news that Katrina Merriweather has moved on from Wright State to Memphis, I happened upon a similar thread for Women's Basketball on a different board: boards.rebkell.net/viewtopic.php?t=98944&start=125&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=&sid=53d1c8d7cda5199b5b9c64e3285414bdAn interesting read. There was some discussion of the Badgers opening, along with grumbling about Barry Alvarez's lack of interest in Women's BB and it's effect on the quality of the program (and some hope that his successor will care more), some speculation that Marquette's coach is likely to be hired away to a more prominent program, and, right after the posting about Merriweather's move, speculation that rules violations will be found in her program. All proof that sports chat boards are sports chat boards. It was interesting to read that Kyle Rechlicz was asked, when interviewed about the Panthers' success this season, if she had any interest in coaching the Badgers. She said she didn't. I wonder if she's got the same perspective on the situation in Madison that the denizens of RebKell's board have: a lack of interest and support in the Madison AD basically sets anyone who takes the head coaching job up for failure. At any rate, the Madison job has apparently gone to the head coach at Boston University, who was previously an assistant coach for UConn.

I'm really intrigued by PFW's new hire. On paper, it seems like a home run. The previous NEC coach of the year lost an all-time great and still put a team better than PFW on the court this year at Robert Morris. I'd almost argue she would've had an AMAZING resume for the job *before* she got a D-I HC job and pulled of a nice 3-year turnaround.
A lotta realignment in her story. She's played in the HL (for a school that's no longer here), then coached with a HL program (IUPUI) and against 2 others in conference play (RMU and PFW) without ever coaching in the HL.
I should've waited to say all this lol. You might hear it again soon

I'm really intrigued by PFW's new hire. I know Coach Mo wanted the job, but it just wasn't in the cards.

Their entire sitting staff went to Memphis. I know the reason for the lack of reporting on it (*sigh*) but it's making it feel like nobody wants the job, which is so weird lol

Makes one wonder about the players on that Wright State team.
How many of them will stick around with an entirely new coaching staff coming in? Apparently not many.
Angel Baker is transferring to Ole Miss. she will have to sit a year unless the NCAA makes another round of exceptions.
Tyler Freirerson (sr) and Emani Jefferson (fr) are following Coach Merriweather to Memphis. Both will be immediately eligible.
Jada Roberson and Alexis Stover are also in the portal. Both played significant roles in the rotation.

It's so wild to me! I feel like if they had hired internally and brought Tim Webb in as an assistant they could have a fairly comparable roster for next year (would still need to find replacements for Frierson and Jefferson, as I can't imagine they pass up the opportunity to follow their coach)
I'm SO interested in what's going on behind the scenes on this one

I went back to the rebkell.net thread I quoted before. Since the initial postings about Merriweather going to Memphis, the only reference was to her assistants following her.
Could be that no one on that board is interested in WSU. If that's the case, we may not hear anything more about the search until the position is filled.

Yeah that whole situation was absolutely NUTS to me! Usually when there's a mutiny (I think of CSU under Felton and New Mexico under Craig Neal) the coach is toast.
...are they gonna keep their hiatus going? Do they just find players who will potentially subject themselves to the alleged abuse bc they don't have better options? Yuck.

They have a lot of scholarships to offer, but a tough sell getting any takers, one would think.

Maybe she has dirt on someone who can keep her job. We're fairly certain that worked for someone here in the not-too-distant past.

Maybe she has dirt on someone who can keep her job. We're fairly certain that worked for someone here in the not-too-distant past. I saw some speculation that someone at UDM decided it was more cost effective to keep her on. She was in the first year of her contract, so a buyout would be at its most expensive. UDM is private, so I don't know that the public would be able to see her contract.
