Hello all, glad to see there is at least a small community that cares about Panther basketball out there. I was on this board some back around the 2014-2016 seasons, when I went to a fair amount of games at Panther Arena. I also went to a handful of UWM women's games around that same time. I went to an early season game in fall 2016, and haven't been to one since. Like some others, I mostly lost interest after the sudden dismissal of Jeter and the loss of so many players I'd enjoyed following.
I went to the Eastern Illinois game last night with my family. Purchased the family pack at $59 with hats and taco vouchers, which really was a pretty good deal. Parking was pricey, of course, but this was way, way cheaper than a Bucks game. I love the Bucks and am ecstatic about their success, but I certainly won't be attending many games soon. I had to work to find the family pack, but appreciated it. I can't believe anyone pays $35 per ticket, however.
As others have said, Panther Arena looks great and is a fun environment. However, it was quite dramatic how poor the crowd was. In the games I went to back in 2013-2016, there were at least moderate crowds that were emotionally into the game. I know students are gone and a zillion other things were going on downtown, but it was still surprising not to see a little more enthusiasm. I'm not sure what the answer is, but of course really impressive winning basketball would help.
The game was weird...as you know it looked horrible for some time. I have followed UWM relatively little the past three seasons so I didn't even know what type of basketball the team was playing. Shot selection seemed mostly awful, with many forced outside shots when the shooter was not open, and many overly aggressive drives to the basket that resulted in nothing. The comeback was quite remarkable considering how much of the game went, but overall UWM looked outcoached and outhustled. I don't know if the team has looked like this all season. Based on the results I was expecting more.
Sorry for the long post, I just thought I'd share a few things as a fairly casual fan but one who has tried to follow UWM sports (including a bit of baseball and soccer) more than the vast, vast majority of Milwaukee area folks.
