...and yet every remaining game the MILWAUKEE Panthers will play this year will be in Detroit.
Absolutely incredible.
Out of curiosity, did we at least get some pizza discount coupons that we can use to try to bribe students to come to our games? Or did Lecrone play our AD for the sap on that too?

Funny how fast the season goes. That said, UCLA played it's final home game on Saturday. Michigan had senior day on Sunday.

I suspect that the overarching part of Fran's post is that UCLA is going to Las Vegas, Michigan is going to New York City and we're going to ... Detroit?!?!
In addition, WE HAD THE BEST MID-MAJOR TOURNAMENT for several years, one that was the template for several other leagues and that cast our conference in a great light!
Now we've got ... pizza?!

And don't forget, our AD's vote to destroy the HLT played at campus sites -- the GOLD STANDARD for mid-major conference tournaments -- means that our season at home is over. In the 13 years of that format, we played at least one game at home in TEN of those years. We would have done it again this year.
You think that a program that is suffocating for lack of fan interest might have wanted to play a tournament game at home this year?

I don't think it would be good of the HL if they went to Las Vegas or New York. Nothing against Detroit, I loved old format as you should reward the regular season champ in hosting the tournament.
I do believe the HL can opt out after year 3. I have a feeling they will and move it to Indianapolis.

Don’t see myself making it to Detroit any time soon...

If giving one team in the league the next best thing to a home game (and giving another team a similar opportunity) was an objection to locating the tournament in Detroit, why wouldn’t Indy now be objectionable? (I realise the League’s response was essentially to ignore the objections to Detroit, so they’re just as likely to ignore the same objection to Indy.)

There's no question that Indy would be much nicer than Detroit, but the Circle City as a "fixed" site doesn't do anything to repair the damage incurred from the move of a tournament that wasn't broken.
How many families will be willing to take a spring break to Indy? After all, people only get so much vacation time.

My hatred of Motor City Sadness is well documented so there's no need for me to re-hash those feelings. Simply moving the tournament to Indy doesn’t fix anything, even if there's a marginal bump in attendance. The tournament needs to be at IFC because of the terrible attendance but it'll have to be at BLF for "competitive balance" which will cause the same eye sores on TV as both venues in Detroit.
I get that the old format was a logistical pain for the league. I'm sure having venues hold dates with no guarantee of those dates being filled wasn't something they preferred on either end. Not only that but to have to relocate the tournament at a moment's notice had to really suck. Unfortunately, that's the reality of the fanbases of the league which is the exact opposite of what they want. If they can find a promoter stupid enough to take on this burden, they'll do just about anything possible to make it work since they don't want to go back to the old way. This is evenmore true since it's in their "home town".
Realistically, we're looking at another 3-5 years of this crap. If you legitimately hate it, don't go. This format will have to die a slow, painful death in order for them to finally give in.

The proof was in the pudding. Just as the collapse in our home attendance demonstrates the mismanagement and neglect of our program, the tremendous crowds at on campus sites for the semis and finals of the old HLT proved the genius of that setup for mid-majors. Whether it’s Detroit, Indy, Chicago or Cincy doesn’t matter. Unless there’s a local team involved, those games will draw flies.
And yet I’m willing to bet our AD hasn’t removed the very large pictures lining the Pavilion walls showing the Arena packed in black and gold watching the Panthers. Every single one of them from an HLT semi or final that we hosted. Let’s be perfectly honest: we will NEVER see a crowd like that again in Milwaukee as long as she’s running the program.
Now our athletic department is reduced to wrangling grade school kids with free vouchers just to stage a “big” crowd... of 1500 people. Pathetic.

Add ons are currently being included to increase ticket sales. This probably explains why a painting class was happening in the concourse during one day of the games last year. Because nothing says “elite D1 basketball” like a painting class...
