Does not seem like Koonce and Costello were "protected"....Geiger either but that is a whole other surreal matter Please refer to your Identity Politics / Social Justice cheat sheets for protected class index (PCI) (which is like the RPI, I guess). Costello is a straight white male. He therefore has a PCI in the 300's. Koonce is a straight black male who had several unacceptable personal behaviors, including being an early participant in #MeToo (or so I have been told). His PCI is in the low 200's as a result. Absent the behavioral stuff, his PCI would be in the 100's. Geiger is a straight white male with behavior issues. He has the lowest possible PCI of 351. Braun is a homosexual female who, while she is white, is also demonstrably sympathetic to minority religions (specifically Islam). She therefore has a PCI in the mid 20's. She would only be replaced (theoretically) by a handicapped, recovering addict, homosexual, black or hispanic, muslim, female, undocumented immigrant/refugee, who would have a PCI above 5. EDIT: If Braun were to announce that she now identifies as male, and prefers to be addressed as Andrew Braun, her PCI jumps into the 10 - 15 range. In this hypothetical, he will get a bump for transgender status, but the bump is limited because he would now be considered "straight". Were he to also announce that he is now dating a man, he immediately vaults to the top five in the PCI rankings and becomes forever untouchable. And before you blast me, please Google the most recent contest for the head of the DNC and read the comments of the contenders. The PCI rankings were on full display, and candidates even said that their job would be, in part, to "tell white people to be quiet". Video of statement here

Hey....I don't make these rules, the Identity Politics authorities created this ranking system.
Personally, I give 2 poo's who someone sleeps with, what God they pray to, if any, where their ancestors came from, or any other silly thing like that.
I only care that you kick butt in your role, and perform at the highest level.
I would be fine with a purple, spotted, transgender, wiccan if they were the best AD and elevated the program. I would welcome them with open arms, and support them with great fervor. Success and results is the ONLY thing I measure people on....ok...well, besides height (thanks Ty Webb).

Gotcha DarkHawk and share similar sentiments. Maybe I am naïve but I just can not get my hands around the concept that no matter how inept Braun can not be fired because she is somehow protected. Maybe becomes a bit more difficult but....

Do NOT try to use logical thinking when evaluating the actions of University Administrations. Logic is heteronormative misogynistic, cisgendered, and racist, and is NOT allowed. To wit: Math is Too White

Occam's razor, folks. All I see is what I have seen for 40+ years: a university administration that oscillates between benign neglect and malign neglect when it comes to our athletics program and particularly men's hoops. I think the "protected class" of our AD, whatever that means, is far down the list if it's even on the list. University administration just doesn't want to be bothered by athletics. A good percentage of the faculty probably couldn't name the teams we field or the league we play in.
Eventually what might catch their attention is that the collapse in fan interest and attendance will make the whole program financially unsustainable short of shifting even more of the cost to students.

at this point, even if Braun were canned tomorrow, would it make much of a difference? in the short- term, not really. its a systemic rot, that goes back to 2006. after Pearl left, at the peak of his profile and fame , and the height of UWM as a potential regular in the NCAA tourney. its surprising, given Pearls history both before and after UWM, that Pearl didnt bend or break rules at UWM.
