I think they want to take Murray State and Valparaiso. I think they also know that taking two schools and sitting at 11 will be an awful situation, creating not just a scheduling nightmare but also continuing the terrible period of uncertainty that has taken a toll on MVC fan bases. With the Valley power base now at Illinois State and Northern Iowa, they push for Milwaukee to be added, believing that the school will be able to restore itself as a solid basketball program. Bradley and Loyola go along with it because even though they're private, they understand that Milwaukee could be great and is also close by.
The schools are worried that if they wait another year, the conference will take the strongest basketball team in 2017-18 instead of a program built for long term success. They note that even though the Panthers have had a mess in the athletic department since 2009, the fact of the matter is that the basketball team actually did pretty well all things considered and is simply in a period of transition towards a coach who is universally liked. They also know that Milwaukee's low attendance probably has as much to do with lacking a ticket manager and assistant ticket manager, and that 2,500 is probably Milwaukee's true floor in the Horizon League.
I think the MVC will recognize that Milwaukee, while seemingly risky, is not actually all that much of a risk.
Tired of the conference realignment carousel and knowing they will eventually need a 12th school anyways, the MVC adds Valparaiso, Murray State and Milwaukee - avoiding a possible challenge from the Horizon League if the MVC were to only take one of the schools.

Could be. When you're a league circling the drain anyway what's the downside of grabbing another program that's already being run for crap?

It wouldn't hurt to try being positive once in a while Panther basketball will be around for the foreseeable future, we'll have a team to cheer for

Jimmy laid it out very nicely on the PantherU forum. A combination of several failures by University leadership including Braun, Mone and their predecessors will keep us from being extended an invite to the MVC. It's a shame too, because our chances of getting a second look probably aren't high.

Kinda want and expect Valpo to go downhill once they are in the MVC. May humble their very arrogant fan base a bit.

One would say the APR ban mess and the move by Andy Geiger to the KC, that resulted a loss of about 50% of the season-ticket base.

The APR ban is so minuscule compared to the other misgivings by this department/program. No season ticket holders left because of that.

I know many people who didn't renew their season-tickets because of the APR ban.

JG
With all due respect you are dead wrong on that....can not name names but there are a number that were very long time and visible season ticket holders that dropped their season tickets and when I asked them why it was about that totally....Steve

I'm very surprised by that and I stand corrected. Unfairly putting all my hopes and dreams for this program in Lavall Jordan's hands at this point...

Reading the MVC message boards they are not very happy with this choice.
