Belling made the point that I've been making for weeks: this issue starts at the top. Braun is a symptom, not the disease itself. You have had chancellors make absurd hires - namely, Mike Lovell, who nobody is bringing up - and Mark Mone, who is as cowardly an individual as I've seen in many years. Belling even took it a step further and hung some of this on the Board of Regents, who hired these bozos in the first place. Braun is a convenient scapegoat, but let's get to the real problem here, which starts at the chancellor's office.

I agree Mone has done a less than stellar job to date. In fairness, Braun was not his hire, and the org was laid out in such a way as to allow him to pretty much ignore the Athletic Department. Things have changed in the last few months.
I hold out some (slim) hope that he is working on a plan, and there will be changes soon. Perhaps just not as quickly as some of us would prefer.
All that said, removing a Chancellor is a tall task, especially when discussing a "non-flagship" school. You would need a lot of pressure applied, likely political in nature, on elected officials who have influence on the Board. They are all Walker appointees now, but that does not mean they can be persuaded by Walker, and even less likely by Taylor.
Our best hope is to try to "coach up" Mone and help him see the value in a well run and successful Athletic Department, and convince him he has neither at the moment, and under the current leadership, he is unlikely to have one in the future.

I think apathy towards athletics and a general misunderstanding of it is what Mark Mone has in common with Carlos Santiago. The misunderstanding is something Lovell had as well.
Nancy Zimpher and Bud Haidet. Those were the days, from what I hear.

Nancy Zimpher and Bud Haidet. Those were the days, from what I hear. Zimpher was most definitely the exception, not the rule. I had the privilege of attending Milwaukee when another milquetoast was running the university in John Schroeder. One year later Zimpher took over and took everything to another level. At least Schroeder was a competent administrator, a Tom Barrett-type. Mone appears to be overmatched, much like the AD herself.

Who is in charge of fact gathering for Belling? For as good of an argument he makes about how high the problems with this university go, he discredits himself with having wildly inaccurate info as his "background" for the story.

Since very little has actually been reported, and I doubt he reads the message boards or chats with people like Jimmy, I was actually impressed with how much he actually got right.
If he actually digs into this, he may find a lot to discuss on his show.
