Mitch Nelles is likes nails on a chalkboard. What was the total amount of times he said, "we are with UWM coach LaVall Jordan on the Mitch Nelles Show. About 6!! That being said, at least the focus was on LaVall Jordan. He does that to reset "time and score" with new audience who comes through during an interview. Average listener time is about 5 minutes. This is a very important and often used interviewing strategy in radio to keep audience informed and interested who may have just hopped in to the interview. I understand since you were an appointment listener to this interview that you didn't need it, but a majority of listeners wouldn't have known who was being interviewed probably and why if they started listening casually.

I have no problem with saying the name of who he is interviewing, the major problem is saying the name over and over again of the title of his own show and station. The Mitch Nellas Show. This is not done by real shows that actually get an audience over at least 6 times in a 9 minute interview.

Mitch Nelles has been the one local media guy who has been willing to devote significant time to Milwaukee Panthers Basketball, despite only having an hour a day. He's even done that during the regular season when only run-of-the-mill games are going on. There's plenty of local sports media that aren't getting it right with the Milwaukee Panthers. Thunder isn't one of them. I will say this about another local guy - following his Twitter rather closely over the last few days, it seems to me that Mike Wickett has decided that Amanda Braun is a sympathetic figure here. This is what he sees on the surface: If we assume (as Wickett did) Matzek's story is accurate, Mark Mone decided at the 11th hour to go in a different direction from Braun's choice, TJ. In a tweet, Wickett likened this to when Herb Kohl interfered with the Bucks. That's how a lot of radio guys do things - when they don't understand the situation and don't feel like diving into it, they find a situation they feel is similar and assign roles. In Wickett's mind, Mone=Kohl, Braun=Poor Bucks GM. So, sympathetic figure.

Or, perhaps, it is Braun = Future Employer so, defend at all costs? I would be astounded, and profoundly discouraged, to see Mike Wickett become the radio play-by-play voice of the basketball program. I know who I would hire if I were the A.D. He just has to stop using his hands so much when he talks on the radio, or else some jumped up ref is going to get pissy again.

Being nitpicky or not, when he says the name of his show at least SIX times in a 8 minute interview, it's a major sign of just self promoting and it's a waste of time. I listen to 50 plus hours a week on Sirius XM and they only say the name of their show maybe twice in an interview if at all. Guys like Paul Finebaum , Tim Brando, Jack Arute, Chris Childers, Mark Packer, even local guys like Mark Belling and Greg Matzek you don't need to do that crap and they don't do that.
My boss came out of his office and asked what are you listening too that after every question he is saying the name of his show. I said the hack that was on ESPN 540 with Homer. Mitch giving Panther talk is a separate issue with the format in which he interviews. It is great that he is talking Panthers, but that is a different issue from how he interviews. I thought the questions were fine with LJ, it was just painfull hearing Mitch say the name of his show after every question.

As for Mike Wickett it's his opinion. Doesn't mean he is wrong. I'm not saying he is right or wrong, but I understand the view he is looking at. He is just looking at it different, like many others are as well. They are just not on message boards or just not being said on boards or twitter because they are glad Rob Jeter is gone because they are looking forward to a new era and don't want to be shouted down by others.

Ok, believe what you want. I just gave you tons of examples of real shows, in which it's not done.
I just re-listened to it and it was said 9 times in the first 16 minutes. Overkill! Nails on the chalkboard!

Reading your post history on this board, I see why you are sticking up for the Mitch Nellas Show because I figured out who you are. Ok, that's fine. It's not really a matter of "sticking up" for anyone. I'm just offering expertise and opinion on an issue I am familiar with.

I'm sure it's happening with the host that you work with that are trying to make a name and and getting a footing on moving the needle. Maybe it's more of local radio thing. It was major overkill with Mitch Nellas saying the name of his show 9 times in the first 16 minutes. Like I said, you won't hear that with Paul Finebaum, Tim Brando, Jack Arute, Taylor Zarzour, Chris Childers, etc. So, I guess I'm offering expertise in listening over 50 plus hours a week, 52 weeks a year.

As others have stated Nelles is one of the few local radio guys that gives us any air time. Because of that I try and tune in whenever possible to support his show. #Morethunder

That is great he is talking Panthers, but that is not subject on hand. Also, let's see how much Panther talk he will have this winter. Not that I'll find out since, I'm a Sirius XM guy or if someone links the podcast.
