Welcome back! Did everyone enjoy their spring break (from the board)?
For starters, no one told anyone to turn the forum off. Sorry Greg Matzek, nothing fishy going on here. It wasn't turned off to protect anyone or any perceived agenda.
As mentioned in a thread recently, there hasn't been much need for moderation on these boards in the last several years. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case in recent days.
We all love Milwaukee basketball and Milwaukee athletics. At the very heart, that’s the reason why UWMFreak created this very public forum 13½ years ago. A community to bring Panthers fans together, not divide as we've seen lately.
Very public. Panthers fans, opposing fans, players, recruits, media, prospective coaches (or, yes, even prospective athletic directors) are lingering the shadows and see what’s posted here. Posts here are a reflection on the university and athletic programs we all love so much. Yes, you are a reflection on the university.
You’ll see some threads have been locked or deleted, and some posts have gone missing. We need to bring civility back to the board, no matter which side of the issue at hand you fall on.
Therefore, please adhere by the guidelines for civil discourse going forward, including but not limited to:
- Treat differing opinions and viewpoints with respect, no matter how long the poster has been on the forum. Your opinion isn’t the only one. And it’s just that. An opinion. You can make it without shouting people down.
If Milwaukee’s fan base is going to grow, you have to expect new members (with differing opinions than yours) are going to join the forum.
Not every fan lives on a message board. We all started with 1 post at one point. Just because their post count is at 10 doesn’t mean they can’t provide a valid view and it doesn’t mean they couldn’t have been in the crowd when Pat McCabe did this. If you think you are somehow superior to others because you have more posts on a message board than them, well...get a life. You may have noticed that this has been remedied by eliminating post counts. - No accusations of posters’ identities. Period. Of course, we do encourage you to not hide behind a screen name.
- No name-calling from either side of the argument. We’re adults. Express your opinions without resorting to childish name-calling.
- No flaming. If your only intention is to flame and engage in no substantive discussion, you won’t be welcome here.
This is not the place to bash players, coaches, or the administration. Thought-out criticism and analysis is OK and expected on a message board, but if you continue to stoke the fires with repetitive posts that don't advance the discussion, that's flaming.
If you can’t adhere by the guidelines above, please take your postings to other outlets … or simply just step away from the computer.
This board, while not previously moderated very strictly, will not tolerate violations of the guidelines outlined above going forward. Posts/threads violating these guidelines will removed, and posters will be warned and potentially removed from the forum.
This board has a lot of history dating back to November 5, 2002.
That’s 13½ years filled with four Horizon tourney titles and four NCAA berths. A magical Sweet 16 run. Deion James’ 3 to beat UIC. UWM 14, Butler 0. First win over UW in 20+ years. Jordan Aaron & the 2014 Horizon tourney. Anthony Hill growing into a beast, right in his hometown.
And the list goes on. All memories documented in this forum. We’ve had great moments during BOTH recent coaching tenures, and we’re sure to have more in the next one.
And we’re sure to have more tough and sensitive topics to debate. When those times come, please respect the viewpoints expressed by others in this Panthers community. Unity, right?
Let’s have everyone do their part to ensure there is a forum to document the next 13½ years of memories.
Go Panthers!
