No problem. All the amateur coaches here will tell you that all these guys are bums anyway who are just "fifth placers." I have yet to see anyone call any players 5th-Placers, other than you just making that up. Nice try attempting to turn that well-deserved nickname for certain fans around.

In fact, Fran, I seriously could not agree with people more that the players this year were 1st place talent. Which only further proves that Jeter and his defenders were always 5th-Placers.
The fact that you are taking that so incredibly out of context, and trying to turn that into something its not, shows a lot to everyone. Keep going.

Your question makes utterly no sense -- kind of like our AD's decision to throw the program into utter turmoil for no good reason. But if you feel qualified, 97, go on record like others have done. You didn't like the coach, that we know. How about the players? Fifth placers? I think some people are belatedly realizing that when our AD decided to dump a coach and staff that our players loved like they were a tub of bathwater, well -- you know the rest. Well, I've been on record for over a decade on this board. I think peoples' personal relationships with Jeter have allowed them to cloud their assessment of his record as the head coach. That's human nature, and it would be nice if many here admitted it. Nonetheless, I think the talent he assembled this season was as good as it's been since he got here. So the 10-8 season in conference play was absolutely not getting it done. How would they be any better next year losing Tiby and Panoske without going the hated Bruce Pearl, JUCO route (the same route used to procure Tiby, Johnson, Boyle, Eayrs, etc). So, no, the AD did the right thing by moving on. If your loyalties lie with the former head coach over the university you claim to love, that's your problem. What personal relationship? What part of "Rob Jeter and I aren't friends" didn't you understand? I'm cordial with Rob and have had some nice conversations with him over the years. That's it. You could say exactly the same thing about me and George Koonce, Rick Costello, Andy Geiger and Amanda Braun. But I have enough judgment and experience and sufficient observational ability to know that of those five that there was only one that I believed was truly passionate about, committed to and very good at his job. Here's a clue: he was a coach. But you know what? irrespective that I did not have any particular "personal relationship" with Rob, I do believe very strongly that too many people on this board relate to the coaches and players as though they only exist in the narrow, fictional window of those fans' perception. They come out of a closed box to play for the fan's benefit -- when and if the fan is paying attention -- and then disappear back into the box, as though they aren't people at all. Just pieces in the fan's mental game. To me they are real people. And in this case, really fine people that will be extraordinarily difficult to replace. Signed -- a fifth placer, just like those bum players and coaches we're doing our best to get rid of.
