What did they say? I don't listen to the local political talk show junk, not with plenty of good sports talk.

I emailed both addresses and thanks to Jeter. I know it won't mean anything but what else can we do. I wasn't happy about some things this season but these guys deserve to be in a tournament as much as any mid major team. If the main issue is money the public should know so they understand how much our stupid legislature is hurting the state universities. If it something else it better be a good reason or it is just going to lead to resentment or apathy. Just all so weird. Oh, this has nothing to do with money at all. They had donors step up and offer to pay for the trip and she declined.

Actually got a very quick response to the abraun25 address. Some typical stuff about how proud they are of athletes and how much they improved academically. She implies that they would rather spend resources on things like foreign trips or "exempt tournaments during the regular season." She says as a fifth place Horizon league team the options "are not in the best interests of our program." Apparently the two Big Ten road wins and wins over several mid majors in early season tournaments don't count for anything.

Is this just a screw you to the coaches about something? Do we really think we are too good for some lesser tournament? Just stupid.

Oh it's getting shared, I'm just still writing my post around it. My mind is moving too fast for my fingers. 2300 words and counting. Leo Tolstoy called. He said to slow down, Jimmy. You know, it was Tolstoy's mistress who encouraged him to name it "War and Peace"....

This reads just like Geiger's explanation for moving back to Klotsche.
"We (wink, wink) have decided that this is a pullout bleacher school, not a program that belongs in a big arena."
These are unilateral decisions and they are, in the words of George Steinbrenner, UNACCEPTABLE.
YOU think that this should be a top 100 program every year. Fine. Start spending like Marquette, Butler or Xavier. Or St. Mary's or Gonzaga or Creighton.
By the way, how do you propose doing that on a shoestring budget and with an abject lack of institutional support?
This program has finished in the RPI top 100 just four times in 35 years of D-1 basketball, meaning that the NCAA/NIT train arrives only once every 9-10 years.
You recently surrendered our best path to the tournament, which was hosting rights for the league title game.
Submit your resignation now, Amanda, and we'll move on from this madness.

Why are we spending money on naming rights and arena improvements if we are not serious about capitalizing and reaping the benefits....the one thing Braun did right was support the commitment to the arena etc....problem is not much if anything done right since....this is horrible for morale of program, players, coaches, supporters, potential recruits or potential head coaching candidates....wow...talk about penny wise and dollar foolish...would not be surprised to see some exodus of players and frankly would not be totally surprised if Rob did not accept an offer even if lower from somewhere else...where have you gone Paul Plinske, we turn our lonely eyes to you ,,,goo goo goo joob...sanity has left and gone away hey hey hey hey hey hey..as Scrooge said, I retire to Bedlaom

The one thing Braun did right was support the commitment to the Arena. "Magellan? You like Magellan?" "Oh yeah, my favorite explorer. Around the world. Come on. Who do you like?" "I like de Soto." "De Soto? Why de Soto?" "He discovered the Mississippi." "Oh, like they wouldn't have found that anyway!"

Just sad. The day basketball died at Milwaukee.
I will continue to wear my Milwaukee basketball shirts under my work clothes. Sometimes it's just the little things.
It's hard to watch March Madness knowing we are on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Just discussed on 540. Couldn't figure out why they didn't play in a tournament.

I'll just go on record and say that Jimmy has this EXACTLY right.
EVERYTHING he writes is consistent with what I've heard and witnessed ... and in much of this we haven't compared notes.
What are we going to do about this, folks?
