Over the years there has been some natural concern expressed over our offense when it hasn't been up to snuff. Often this gets expressed irrationally in terms of tempo, which is an extremely poor metric for the quality and effectiveness of an offense. Anyway, it's worth pointing out that Rob and his staff have this year put together the best offense we have seen at Milwaukee in its modern D1 history (post-Antrim). Kenpom currently rates our offense as the 33rd most efficient in the nation. Our best finish ever in those rankings was 44th by the '04 club. This statistical analysis simply confirms the eye-test for me. This offense is exceptional. Threats at every position on the floor, a commitment to passing the ball, the ability to score fast when it's there and at the last instant when it's not. On the whole it has been a pleasure to watch.
Now defense? Well, let's hope we are moving in the right direction. Beating OU last night is a good marker, since they are the only team in the league with an offense better than ours (24th). Notably, however, in conference play alone Milwaukee's offense has been clearly the best -- despite the fact that in conference play we also have the "slowest" tempo.
