...until you look at the insane Horizon League schedule and realize that we now play FIVE STRAIGHT GAMES on the road. We don't play at home again for THREE WEEKS! Will the students even remember last night by then?
If this conference doesn't change fast, we need OUT.

While, the schedule is out of whack. It's not like it's a 5 game road trip. I believe it will broken up as 3 road trips.
It's was great FINALLY hosting Green Bay with the students not on winter break. I also like the fact that Senior Day doesn't fall around Valentines Day, that the Panthers have 4 home games after that date.
That being said, now that the HL is back to 10 teams and it's travel partners back, why is there all these long road trips and long home stands?

Where do you propose we go? I am a relatively new Panther fan so I don't know all the history. I know the MVC took Loyola (though I'm not sure why). Would they really be interested in UWM? That's the only conference that makes sense, right? The Summit league is horrible. It's not like we're going to the Atlantic 10 or anything.

I believe the MVC taking Loyola had more to do with their Baseball facilities. Someone else might know for sure. And of course the other reason was to get a foot into the Chicago market.

The Horizon League is ranked No. 17 on CollegeRPI.com; the Summit League is ranked No. 11. Because of some sage membership decisions, forcing out wayward members like Chicago State and Southern Utah, the Summit has pulled far ahead of the stale Horizon, which clings to existing anchor members and refuses to embrace quality candidates thought to be outside of the league "footprint," as if Youngstown, Ohio was inside the league "footprint" in 2001. I hate the Horizon League! Ok, you may continue.

The Horizon League took Oakland from the Summit after Southern Utah's departure & took Oakland and Valpo since Chicago State left. I think uncharacteristically good seasons from IPFW and Omaha have more to do with it. The Horizon League taking in Northern Kentucky for their upside doesn't help either.

Bottom line: the Summit League is presently run better than the Horizon.

Dylan has it right. Look, I realize there is no obvious option immediately available. But either the HL makes some changes or we HAVE to start looking for a way out. The horrendous decision to move the tournament to Detroit; the terrible TV issues; the scheduling. What's next? (I fear asking!)
Btw, one consequence of our five game, three week absence from Milwaukee is that our "hometown" paper will now, again, happily pretend we don't exist until the end of February. Apparently they blew all their budgeted travel dollars for Milwaukee when Rosiak had to take the No. 30 bus up to campus for the Judson game.
We're the best team in the state but between our league and the JS nobody will know it.

Finding another private school to replace Creighton was probably much higher on the list than people think too.

Will it happen? Doubtful unless we can get the practice facility started. Chances are Valpo would be option #1 for them and I don't see why they wouldn't bolt before you could finish blinking.

Where would we go? Is is out of the realm of possibility for us to attempt to join the American League? Too geographically complex? It's Central and East-ish and South- but all within a relatively short flight. They have Cincinnati, and don't have anybody near Chicago and might look to that in consideration of us, no? Maybe if we get to the Sweet 16 again- and win. Anyway... Valpo is dang-good team we will have to figure out and beat. Maybe Motor City Madness won't be the unmitigated disaster that most expect it will be (including myself, though... have vacation days, will travel). 'Hope we can stick with our winning ways. It'd sure be a great and exciting homecoming final 4 games if we are playing 100%, Top Fight-level for the Horizon League Reg. Season title or at least a #1 or #2 HLT seed. I think we could pack the house at Panther Arena pretty good for the Cleveland St., (potentially HUGE) Valpo contest and the final reg. season game against UIC- esp. if the Panthers have already are at or close to that 20 win threshold... I predict we will start a very lengthy winning streak here pretty soon. And hopefully never let up until it's just not in the cards that day/statistically impossible! vs. Notre Dame '03, Illinois '05, Florida '06, Villinova '14- whatever: just get there! We really could... That's a huge motivator this time of year... But in all seriousness, I don't think this team has peaked in terms potential, which is a good thing. We don't always get what we want, but we're patient, huh*? GO PANTHERS!!!! *I think outside of the J-S, you can put most of our branding woes behind... I was scrolling through ESPN.com the other day ("Milwaukee", "Milwaukee Panthers", "Milwaukee's Rolls..", "Milwaukee Survives...")- literally laughing out loud about discussions 5-6 years ago many ppl still on here had about the viability of trying and how to get sports media to refer to our teams by the name on their jerseys and not an assortment of half a dozen acronyms and hyphenations that describe our school name. It ain't UW-Madison Badgers anymore than it's the UW-Milwaukee Panthers. They own Wisconsin on their jersey. Fair enough. We own Milwaukee on ours (at the college level). But yeah- people get "Milwaukee Panthers" now. I didn't think that- or the court- or the Arena branding/huge upgrades- or a lot of crazy stuff this program has been through, would have ever happened. It's amazing what a group of rabble-rausers can help stir up. Those student section shirts have it right. Truthfully: "IT'S JUST US". Don't complain about it- be about changing it. And watch this season unfold. It's a mighty test we are about to go through on the road... Hooper can't shoot like that again at least, and we should have Springs. ESPN3 has all the games. If anyone who knows me wants to set up a watch party or 2 at my house or elsewhere, PM me and let me know. Things are about to get heavy.

While they are the best bball program, would the MVC really want a school that plays in a glorified high school gym and in another small Indiana market? Also I don't think Valpo exactly lights it up in any other sports.

Also I don't think Valpo exactly lights it up in any other sports. Conference realignment doesn't always make sense. WVU in the Big 12? Rutgers in the B1G? Boise St's & SDSU's original plans on joining the Big East? Outside of football, did Nebraska's lack of a basketball program stop them from getting into the B1G?

Is there really that much difference between 10 to 20 in the RPI ranking. It seems movement week to week is inevitable. The Horizon League is a balanced league that should promote high academic standards, integrity, and quality athletes. It is hard to judge if one league is that much better than the other. My problem with our league is that there are no longer rivalries. GB and UWM are naturals. Since Butler and Loyola are gone there is not much left. I do not think there is a solution unless a DePaul decides The Big East is not in their interest. The league was so much stronger a few years ago which makes me wonder why UWM isn't always on top now and every year.
