Using a very unscientific method I used a stopwatch app to measure the time from when the clock stops to when the ball is rebounded and the put back is made. I get more than 1.7 seconds. So in defense of the officials, it could be argued that the shot doesn't count. Don't blame the refs on this one, blame the timekeeper. It was said that the official blew inadvertent whistle.

Which is, of course, the old bailout explanation.
Multiple people told me that they never saw an official put on a headset. Very interesting.
Whatever happened to ricestillfumbled?

I'm not sure on the rule, but I believe a player can't just fall to the floor. That resulted in the Tiby travel. Didn't see the video, if he got pushed down. You are correct. The player can't just fall to the floor. That is a travel. Tiby was apparently trying to call a timeout, but I didn't see him try when it happened. A person can call a time out, but the referees need to see you do it. Regarding the last second shot, this was the timekeeper's screw up. The referees were just the ones who needed to clean up the mess. I don't know the college rule for this scenario, but there were three options: 1. Resume play from the point the clock mistakenly stopped (at 1.7 seconds). At this point, the ball was in the air on the first shot. With that being the case, play would have to be resumed with a jump ball (not sure who had the arrow) since there was no team control of the ball at the time. 2. Measure the time between when the clock mistakenly stopped to when the second shot was released to see if it occurred within 1.7 seconds. 3. (I believe this is the option the referees used) Measure the time between when the clock mistakenly stopped to when the Panthers controlled the rebound and resume play from that point. The refs were using a stop watch to review the play. I believe they measured the remaining time to be 0.4 seconds when the Panthers secured the rebound. If this was the case, I find it very unlikely the put-back was shot in time. This game was lost long before these plays. Other than for Tiby, who played with a lot of passion and determination, nobody else looked ready to play. Our defense was terrible with players not helping out when South Dakota would drive to the basket (knowing where your man and the ball are is grade school stuff) and we apparently thought we were playing against a team of 7 footers since our entire offense seemed to be run from outide the three-point line. Agree on every point. I'm obviously disappointed about the outcome, but every point here is valid.

Extremely disappointing result but we cant change it now. The officials were not nearly as good as the contestants, who left it all on the floor.
So let's focus on the positives, which were many.
1) This team may have more grit than any Milwaukee team I have seen going back to Bo's years. They absolutely never quit. They are grinders in the best possible way. A great reflection on our coach, who is an extremely passionate guy.
2) Matt Tiby is a monster.
3) JayQuan McCloud had a coming out party. Made some crucial shots in high pressure situations. He is so talented; once the game slows down for him a little he's going to be a great player.
4) Brock Stull gave us some very good minutes and was very composed on the floor. Great job.
5) JJ and Jordan had arguably their worst games of the season, JR was out injured, and we lost by 1 point in double OT to a very good team. Nice job by Rob of making good substitutions to cover for those guys and give us a legitimate chance to win. Wait -- three legitimate chances to win.
6) The loss notwithstanding, that was an EXTREMELY entertaining game. I feel sorry for anyone who couldn't make it. If you CHOSE not to go, don't make that mistake again!

Don't know if this was the case, but many thought something was wrong with Jordan Johnson. Didn't know if the ankle was acting up or if he felt sick. Early in the 2nd half he went to the bench about three times in the fist fives minutes and just sat the bench during halftime warm-ups.

Honest to God, the first whistle I hear is the one AFTER Bob has announced the basket for Akeem.
Of course, this loss only really hurts our at-large chances for the CBI or CIT.
And I would like to think our aspirations are a lot loftier than that!

Video of the final play of OT1 Notice how the "inadvertent whistle" doesn't exist. It literally doesn't exist. There's no whistle until after Springs' put-back goes through the net.

Just what I feared...playing on top of there game and going flat. This is what worries me about RJ's teams.

One game is enough to cast this team aside? South Dakota may not be much of a name, but they won at Minnesota recently and won several other games over non-conference D1 mid-majors. They went 17-16 last year. Four of their top eight rotation guys are seniors. We fought back from a big first half deficit to force two overtimes. We made some mistakes and probably didn't deserve to win, officials not withstanding, but really, this one game is one to get all depressed and down about? Save it for a month or two.

Great teams have to find a way to win. We're expecting more out of this team than those in the recent past.

I have expectations for this team, because this is a !DAMN! group of players with great chemistry. I hope this isn't an up and down season, they have the pieces to go somewhere this year.
