This could go in the season schedule thread, I realize, but I didn't want it to get lost. Here's what the current non-conference scheduling climate for mid-majors has wrought on the Panthers: our first non-exhibition game is on November 13. Over the following 13 days, through November 25th, we play EIGHT games. One game every 1.625 days for those counting. And only one of those games is at home.
In the following 37 days, we play FIVE games. One game every 7.4 days.
That is simply ridiculous.
At least we will be well rested going into conference play -- but I bet the same will be true of most HL teams.

Have you seen mid-major power Stephen F Austin schedule? Going into September, CBS's Jon Rothstein was reporting they needed 5 non-conference games for this year to fill.
They filled it will a road game at Baylor,(which is a great game)but 4 home games with LSU-Shreveport, Henderson State, Arkansas Tech and Our Lady of the Lake.

SFA is a low major that hits way above its weight. Because of that, no power teams want anything to do with them. It's the same problem we have, but worse. Notwithstanding that SFA has acquitted itself well in the last three NCAA tournaments, fans of a power school that scheduled SFA would of course lump them in with the sort of schools who tend to populate high major non-con schedules. (I'm looking at you, Wells Street.) If you beat them it's so what, if you lose to them it's a disaster. So they won't chance it. And I suspect, like us, SFA has no ability to pay for D1 opponents. The result is multiple D2/3 opponents. This is the world we live in, ultimately because of the hegemony of the NCAA tournament over everything else in college basketball.
