Sounds like Oakland is in....not bad ...like also that this gets baseball back up to minimum...would be really cool if HL did more of a blockbuster move with say 12 teams split into two divisions but if we can add Oakland and one other that would be fine assuming no others leave...hoping for either Belmont or Murray State but also UMKC or Northern Kentucky I think would be great additions...UMKC is moving back to their version of the U S Cell from their on campus high school craphole so hoping we do the same....k

.....really cool if HL did more of a blockbuster move with say 12 teams split into two divisions..... Why does everybody automatically think 12 teams = 2 divisions? The Big East had 16 teams last year and the A10 had 14 teams this year---NO DIVISIONS. The division thing seems to work for football, though.

How would it work then if you had 12 teams with one division? What's the "round robin" like?

How would it work then if you had 12 teams with one division? What's the "round robin" like? The top 4 teams would get a 1st round bye. First round games: #5 vs #12, 6 vs 11, 7-10, and 8-9. Second round games would depend on how many of the top 4 teams you wanted to get a 2nd round bye.

No, no...not how the conference tourney goes, but the regular season. If you have 12, then which teams do you play twice and which teams are played once? Are they arbitrarily chosen?

I don't want any amount of teams that would prevent a double-round robin regular season. If football conferences want to bloat themselves into unsustainable behemoths, more power to 'em, but I really think the H-League would be best off if it focused on providing the best college basketball experience possible. Especially since so few conferences are committed to doing that nowadays.

Is a 22-game conference season all that bad? Less games to schedule against bad non-D-I teams and (ugh) teams from the MAC or Summit not named Ohio, Akron, and Kent State or NDSU/SDSU.

Surely you jest PantherU! If you have a 22-game regular season, that means you're only going to be able to schedule maybe up to 8 OOC games. As it stands now...well, then again when I look at...that's only about 4 games short of what we schedule out of conference any way. So, that might not be that bad of a thing! 8 games would be enough to build a decent RPI before the HL season and if the teams in the HL are stronger, then the in-conference RPI doesn't take that much of a hit.

At the very least we need to adopt scheduling guidelines. We can't have Youngstown playing 4 D-II teams every year.

I hear it's cost effective for them.

Murray State? I am not convinced Detroit, WSU, CSU, etc. are leaving. They will leave if we look like a dysfunctional conference. With the additions of Oakland and Murray State- the Horizon League (IMO)- is just as good as it was when we had Loyola and Butler (pre-Butler's explosion onto to nat'l title scene). But still- IUPUI, NKU, IPFW... Those are not options that would make us a better conference. Murray State is. They have had a solid program in the past 5-8 years. I think the competition would be better and scheduling would be quite nice with this lineup: Milwaukee Wright State Murray State Oakland Detroit Valparaiso Cleveland State UIC Green Bay Youngstown State ....in fact (oh yeah- the crazy optimist dreamer is back- those could be the eventual end of reg. season standings.... lol. Although it may be too late to bring Murray State in this year. Just my $00.2 What say y'all? PS: Yes.. Milwaukee #1? Who woulda thunk in January of 2011? I really hope we can move back down to the Cell, get the base engaged (obviosuly the students who wanna see games will show up- whether it's on campus or downtown- most UWM students just don't care until we get good- I know that's how I felt when I was an undergraduate. I went to maybe 2 games in 2001, 3 games in 2002, 5 games in 2003, 4 games in 2004, and at least 8 games in 2005. Man... those were the glory days... Beating 'Bama and then BC and fighting hard vs. eventual nat'l runner up Illinois in the 1st half of the Sweet 16 game at the Rosemont- frigging unreal. 'Miss 'em. I don't want to see the Horizon League disintegrate- it has potential to be a very solid Mid-Major conference- Butler's departure be damned. (Loyola's departure helped us as many have pointed out). And gotta reiterate- AD Braun has to bring us back to the Cell. Until we have a legit D-I on-campus facility, it's just not going to draw the casual fan. I know winning begets fans.. But it's hard to win when you are playing to flies in a YMCA-style gym. I think we will be back at the Cell. I am confident a deal can be worked out. Some bridges were burned with the Geiger turnabout... but the WCD NEEDS OUR $$$$. And we need better terms. Simple and plain. Get to the negotiating table, Milwaukee AD and WCD folks!! Like pronto. Season tickets, donations, recruits and a lot more depend on it. No offense to the small gaggle of fans who are thrilled to see a D-I program who has made the NCAA Tourney 3x in the past decade and made the Sweet 16 play in a high school gym.

Just have a feeling that the first so-called wave is going to be Oakland and Northern Kentucky.

NKU would give the HL an even 5 regional rivalries that would also double as travel partners. I'd much rather have them than IUPUI, IPFW or UMKC.
