First time caller, long time listener...I have been observing the Wardle situation in GB and have found it interesting on many levels. While I know that there is a thread on the other board I was wondering how this might affect Milwaukee? From conversations with some close to the GB program, I get the feeling that Brian might be feeling some heat...it is far from a sure thing that he will keep his job. First, I do not wish for anyone to be fired but on the surface that might seem to be an advantage to our program...new coach, late start recruiting etc... But what worries me is who might very well end up coaching at GB. And to be more specific...who might be off the market next year if Rob is shown the door. Drew Diener at Cardinal Stritch is the real deal...he has been there 4 years and has a crazy record including this years NAIA D2 national championship and National Coach of The Year. My wife has ties to Stritch so I have watched closely the last 4 years. This kid is special, great charisma, first rate communicator, wonderful game coach and his dad, Dick is at his side. The talent he has brought in and is bringing in is insane at that level. Stritch has only 2.8 schollies to work with and the rest of the country has 6...yet he won it all. I know Dick from his high school days and he is as good a basketball mind as you will find. Drew Diener will be at the top of GB's wish list if Brian is shown the door. He should be at the top of our wish list if the job opens up next year. This might just be a story inside a story. At least something to keep an eye on.

I think former GB player Gary Greczk might be on their radar as well. Rich Panella former coach and AD at Stritch, now living with ALS courageously, has great judgement, compassion, and love for sports. His friendship with Rick Majerus, I'm sure, had something to do with Deiner becoming a coach. Rich is a great teacher. Deiner will be a D1 coach soon.
The Wardle situation is interesting in light of the many scandals amongst the coaching fraternity. The Bobby Knight style still exists in the heated and competitive world of sport. College athletes are honed at all levels to be stars, coddled by parents and coaches. The boot camp of Buzz Williams may bite him in the behind as well when it comes to coaching today's stars.
So we can complain about Jeter and demand he be fired. But he's won championships and is starting to recruit athletes who are graduating, playing overseas, and coaching at all levels. This is the biggest part of his job. He's dealt with issues well. Made mistakes but seems to learn from them. I hope next year bring in more W's and we can look forward to better facilities and fun at Panther games.
