I hear she has a knack for selling computers over the phone... even when the phone isn't plugged in. Hopefully she can sell the program just as well.
I was on the Plinske bandwagon as well, but I thought they were all pretty good candidates. I'm hoping Braun can take us back to the next level.

I'm just hoping she never was admitted to an insane asylum due to using the mantra of "Serenity Now!".

I don't care who she or he is or isn't if she is going to come in and light a fire and get this sinking ship turned around great that is what i want.
I also do not understand why so many think that Plinske is someone who will do nothing but good, how do you know? He has done great at Whitewater i would agree there, but in sports especially college sports if you are good you do not usually stay at the lower levels long, and he has been there how long now? I think some need to take off the homer glasses and actually wonder why it is that for the 2nd time in a row he was not selected and why he has not made the move away from Whitewater yet, what other places has he not gotten a job from, something tells me if he has thrown his name in at UWM 2x he is prolly doing the same elsewhere so why has no one else grabbed him up???
In any case welcome Amanda Braun, now hopefully it is not too much to ask for you to do some major house keeping and get our program back in order, HELP WE NEED IT!

I'll be thrilled with this choice if it ends up getting us a new coach.

We'll know early on what type of hire this will turn out to be. If she comes in and everything is puppy dogs and ice cream, I'll be worried. If she comes in and addresses the challenges facing this program - and her plan to fix them - I'll take some slight comfort. I will say that it's disappointing but not surprising that Plinske was passed over yet again.

Dutch,
My basis for Plinske was based on a few factors. Starting date, Plinske could have been up here next week. Braun will be here May 1st (Losing about 7 weeks of get ahead time).
Plinske knows the UW Board of Regents and system because he has been in it nearly 10 years. Braun will have to get re-acclimated and gain a foothold again, something Plinske already has.
I believe she has great potential to be an athletic director. Plinske has already proven he can be a great athletic director, yes it was division III but it's the best program in the state of Wisconsin top to bottom based on national championships. He has built that program.
In the few discussions I have had with him he seemed like he was a high motor, work hard and then some kind of guy. I'll give Amanda the benefit of the doubt here, I haven't spoken with her. If she comes in, gets a few initiatives and plans under her belt and off and running before September 1 we might be alright. If nothing substantial is in the pipeline or moving by the start of next school year, it may be a long 2013-2014 season.
I wish her the best of luck, I'll be as supportive as I can. At the end of the day it comes down to the vision she brings, the people she surrounds herself with, and the hard work plus determination from those within to instill and drive change.
We'll see what they come up with.

MILWAUKEE - Amanda Braun will be the new Athletic Director for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Braun, Executive Senior Associate Director of Athletics at Northeastern University in Boston, is a Wisconsin native who previously served in athletic administration positions at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
"The strength of Amanda's accomplishments and her well-rounded experiences definitely stood out among the high-quality candidates seeking this position," said UWM Chancellor Michael R. Lovell. "I am pleased that she will be a key member of my executive staff and will provide valuable insight as we position UWM for continued growth. I am confident she will be an excellent leader and work well with our Panther coaches, student-athletes and community."
"I would like to first express my gratitude to Chancellor Lovell and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Michael Laliberte for this incredible opportunity," said Braun. "Their leadership of UWM was a strong factor in my interest in this position, and it is clear they are positioning the university for success now and into the future. I look forward to working with each of them to build upon a tremendous foundation of athletics success and to ensure that we align the priorities of the athletics department with the mission and values of the university. I am thrilled to be returning to my home state, partnering with the Milwaukee community, and working with Panther coaches, staff and student-athletes."
Braun will succeed current UWM Athletic Director Andy Geiger, who joined UWM in May 2012. Geiger - a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Hall of Fame whose programs achieved great success at Ohio State, Stanford and other universities - came to UWM on a 13-month contract to help the university through a transitional period. Geiger has agreed to stay on at UWM once Braun has arrived to support the upcoming university-wide fund-raising campaign.
"Amanda Braun is the future of UWM Athletics," said Geiger. "I've worked with many outstanding athletic administrators and have been extremely impressed with Amanda. She's ready to lead an NCAA Division I program, and I look forward to working with her."
At Northeastern University, Braun has served as the top administrator to the director of athletics since 2008 and directly supervises four sports programs including men's and women's basketball. She supervises the Northeastern business office staff and oversees its $10 million annual operating budget and $10 million annual athletic scholarships budget. She also is involved in fund-raising, athletic capital projects and student-athlete academic compliance at Northeastern. She joined Northwestern as its Associate Director of Athletics in 2006
Northeastern University fields 18 NCAA Division I teams and is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association.
Braun was a member of the UW-Green Bay Athletic Department for more than six years. She rose to the position of Associate Director of Athletics prior to leaving for Northeastern.
Braun holds a Masters of Arts in Sports Administration degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, summa cum laude, from Siena College, Loudenville, NY, which she attended on a basketball scholarship. She graduated from Brodhead High School in Brodhead, WI.
Chancellor Lovell expressed his appreciation to the UWM Search and Screen Committee, which was led by Kevin Fitzgerald, Assistant Athletic Director-Compliance, and William Keith, Communication Professor and Chair of the UWM Athletic Board.
Braun will begin her new duties at UW-Milwaukee on May 1.

I don't like this hire nor do I understand why she would be offered over a proven AD in Plinske.
