Question.....Am I correct in stating that once a new AD is hired, that Geiger will stay on? If so, how can we afford both, yet can't find a way to get rid of Jeter? I'm living in La La Land here, but couldn't we offer Jeter a buyout of, say $1.25M? That allows him to go find a top assistant job and he can save face. Then, we can hire a new head coach for about $160-175K a year. We come out in what is essentially a wash. We're paying the guy anyways.... It couldn't hurt to try it... |

Maybe they should just make him the AD and he could hire a new coach for the $150k the AD position is budgeted for. At least that way we wouldn't have to hire a new AD for four years!

Jon Coleman was reassigned for a short stint if I recall correctly. That was towards the end of his deal.
Just as clarification, I am not surprised by the contract extensions by Bud as we have known those for years and expected this problem to haunt us until 2016. I am baffled and appalled that an AD who is here as a stop gap and hold over would extend this contract until 2017.
It is inexcusable in this situation as an athletic administrator to provide an extension to someone who will not be under your supervision in 4-6 months, let alone 4 years. I also have trouble believing that whoever is assisting the Chancellor's office in budget oversight would allow the athletic department with our financial situation to extend this ridiculous contract another year at the 3% increase for a 450K+ deal.

I'm sorry but this has always been my gripe with giving Bud so much praise, he did bring us to Division 1 but he also handicapped us big time in more then one area and if you go back and look at the reason why we are in the financial issues we are in a lot of the reason point to him, so while he did do some good things and those are great he is not the saint that some like to make him out to be and honestly i do not think he should have a court or hall of fame named after him here at UWM. One of the biggest misconceptions about the Bud Haidet era is that Haidet was the main reason that Milwaukee moved from NCAA Division 2 to Division 1. According to the Chicago Times article: “Coach Leads Wisconsin-Milwaukee On Fast Break To Success” from Febuary 12, 1993, Steve Antrim the Men’s basketball coach at the time was the driving force of leading the university to NCAA Division 1. Steve Antrim was hired by Haidet's predessor before the 1987-88 season. Haidet was hired as A.D. in 1988 and served until 2009. “When Antrim came to Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1987, he inherited a Division III team that had an 8-20 record in its fourth straight losing season.
In Antrim's first season, Milwaukee compiled a 16-12 record. The next year, the Panthers improved to 24-7 competing in Division II, where they were among the final eight in the national tourney.
That prompted the school administration to look kindly on Antrim's request that Milwaukee take the next step to Division I. After a 10-18 season in 1989-90, the Panthers moved up to Division I and went 18-10. So basically $450,000 this year for 3 D1 wins = $150,000 per win.
Yeah, we're getting our money's worth.
So when is one of the 500 or so fans in attendance just going to start giving Jeter an earful? You know, to the point where it kind of gets uncomfortable.
