Link: Gulley breaks non-shooting handHappened in practice - nobody including Paris is sure of when it happened. Had surgery yesterday, Paris says he'll be out 3-4 weeks.

Well this is not a promising note to start things off with.

Back for conference play hopefully. If he can fully recover it'll make us stronger in league play than we'd otherwise be. Sucks for him though.

I was told that very pessimistic views he'll be back before the Wisconsin game. The actual diagnosis is 3-4 weeks, and I'm expecting it'll take a little time to get back up to speed before he's good ole bomb from downtown PG.

I'm struck by how little this means for the team as a whole. With Bobo and Evan to fill that 2-guard spot (plus Austin, Jordan, and even J.J. to be 3-point sharpshooters) we should be able to fairly easily work around this. And when he gets back we're even better.
We have such a deep, talented roster (anyone at this point who casts doubt on Jeter's recruiting capabilities is insane) that we can most certainly contend for the league title in the regular season.

Paris has been playing really well. This is a big hit. Let's hope he recovers quickly and fully. It always distresses me when a senior gets injured. In the meantime, Bobo and Evan need to fill in. I am confident in their ability, but we are now down to four healthy guards on the roster, including a walk-on. Cross your fingers that nobody else gets hurt.

I'm struck by how little this means for the team as a whole. Well, we had four scholarship guards and now we have three. This leaves us very thin. Until Paris returns, J.O. and Bobo will play about 32 minutes apiece and Evan will play 16. Let's pray that Evan's back holds up this season.

The key here is non-shooting hand.

Heard the news last night. Broken hands generally take 6-8 weeks to heal. 3-4 weeks would be nearly miraculous. I'm expecting him back closer to the Wisconsin game. Barring a set back (which in the past has happened to every player who gets hurt before the season starts (a la Tony Meier)), he will be back in time for conference play. I know these are "freak injuries" but they happen too much. Is it time to start questioning the training staff and strength/conditioning? It's hard to believe that we're this unlucky when it comes to injuries without there being other factors.

And by the way, we have a new S/C this year, and by all accounts he is doing a phenomenal job.

We have such a deep, talented roster (anyone at this point who casts doubt on Jeter's recruiting capabilities is insane) that we can most certainly contend for the league title in the regular season. Anyone questioning Jeter's recruiting is insanely accurate. Even without Gulley, Milwaukee has 9 upperclassmen at their disposal, so youth is no excuse for struggling mightily against a bad D2. Milwaukee is a year away from being another UIC. This conference needs more, and Panther fans deserve more.

You're right, Milwaukee is really doing a disservice to the league with its one point victory in an exhibition game. Seriously, go pound sand. Milwaukee has done more for its fans and the league than Green Bay has even come close to. Honestly, how has it been to be a Phoenix fan all these years, constantly finishing outside of first place in the league? It must really be exciting to have a third place team this year though... Congratulations on your misguided arrogance. I'm sure at some point, you guys will FINALLY reach the pinnacle of a 1st place finish in the 21st century. Until then, we'll continue to laugh at your lame, hypocritical insults.

Green Bay has won this conference, has the 2nd best record in this conference of the remaining members behind only Valpo, and has a recent non-conference win over a ranked opponent. Milwaukee also did huge things for this conference in the Pearl era. However, all of these things mean absolutely nothing as far as the present situation is concerned. Jeter has done nothing to elevate this conference, and the present state of his program is extremely weak. I'm not sure why you are denying this, or why your trying to kill the messenger instead of dealing with the message. Jeters best players are seniors, next year is a re-building year. His program is almost devoid of productive young talent.

His program is almost devoid of productive young talent. Your last two sentences are exactly what bothers me. These simply aren't facts. Milwaukee has continuously shown that they are able to replace players on a year to year basis. JJ Panoske is a freshman. Evan Richard is a Sophomore. Jordan Aaron is a Junior. Paris Gulley is a Senior. All 4 will play prominent roles on this team. I implore you to show me where any Green Bay team past or present has "elevated this conference." You think a win over Wisconsin "elevates" our conference? It doesn't. I've been as critical as anyone over our lack of recent NCAA tournament appearances, but I just find it funny that a fan of Green Bay has the balls to come in here and tell us what we have and haven't done as a program, seeing as though you haven't experienced any real, measurable success since the mid-90s. I happen to like the talent on Green Bay's roster as well as their coach, but I'm not stupid enough to believe that Wardle is going to stay at a second-rate program with the ability to pay its coach about as much as most schools pay their assistants. Don't kill the messenger. Just deal with the message...
