The season ticket holder scrimmage tonight was very encouraging. Excellent offensive showings from Jordan Aaron, Bobo Niang, Steve McWhorter (who will redshirt, of course), Austin Arians, James Haarsma, Evan Richard and Demetrius Harris with plenty of highlights from many others. This is a team with good chemistry, depth and balance. Joe Tagarelli is a steal as a walk-on. This is a team that may not scare anyone getting off the bus but will be a very, very tough out on the court.
The recruiting news is good too.

Arians was deadly from 3, but looked lost trying to do much else. If we could combine his shooting with Joe Tagarelli's Krabbenhoft-like knack for doing all the little things perfectly we'd have a hell of a wing. Also, Arians is already really physically imposing, which makes him sort of slow but very strong.
Demetrius was pretty super in a lot of ways, but he continues to make dumb mistakes that jeopardize his chances to see big minutes. 19 pts, 10 rebounds, 2 sensational dunks; 5 turnovers, 4 fouls, one blocked dunk (again), and was beaten back on defense regularly in the first half.
Kelm looked uneven but he should be fine; Panoske will make an instant impact on the defensive end and his confident jumper should offset his underdeveloped post game for a moderate offensive impact while he's in the game.
Bobo Niang is an amazing athlete with a perfect jumper (and 8 assists to 2 turnovers!). With he, Evan, and Paris all rotating at the 2, we can offset our recent losses and volume of new players with a depth chart that few teams will be able to match in terms of athleticism and skill. We're young all around, but deep at every position.
1 (black) Jordan Aaron, PG Paris Gulley Ryan Haggerty, SF James Haarsma, PF Kyle Kelm, PF/C
2 (gold) Bobo Niang, PG/SG Evan Richard, SG Austin Arians, SF Demetrius Harris, PF J.J. Panoske, C
Depth charts: PG: Jordan Aaron, Bobo Niang, Steve McWhorter, Mitch Roelke SG: Paris Gulley, Evan Richard, Bobo Niang SF: Ryan Haggerty, Austin Arians, Joe Tagarelli PF: James Haarsma, Demetrius Harris, Christian Wolf C: Kyle Kelm, J.J. Panoske, Christian Wolf, Quintin Gustavson

I want to thank the school for the pizza, popcorn and soda! It's very nice that they do that for the fans.

RE: Super King's report
I actually disagree on Arians. I saw him as a guy who likes, almost prefers, to bring the ball up the floor. He can handle the ball, and that was evident on one play when he got around his man and then before getting trapped on the baseline, he threw the ball across the court to Hags who then made the extra pass to Gulley for the open three. One of my favorite plays of the night. Austin fits the college game better than he fit the high school game. He also makes quick decisions, which is perfect for this brand of offense.
I thought the rest of your analysis was spot on. Demetrius Harris was an athletic guy who made a few nice shots and a few garbage buckets. He needs to make better snap decisions. He seemed to hesitate at times. I don't see him as the starter at the 3 like many others do.

Haggerty will be the starter at the 3. That's why he was on the black team. I like that we're going with a more traditional 1-2-3-4-5 floor lineup.
I'll tell you what's not encouraging: that our starters got beat pretty bad by our backups.

As I said in watching...I think the guys on the Gold, had a lot more to play for..being minutes on the floor.

I'll tell you what's not encouraging: that our starters got beat pretty bad by our backups. In a game played at that pace, I thought the game-changer for the Gold team was that it had two point guards -- McWhorter and Bobo -- to the Black team's one -- J.O.
