No real surprise here, seeing as though he was only given a minute of playing time. Still a great learning experience for Allen and something 99% of the basketball world will never get to experience.

Will this hurt his chances of playing overseas now? (Assuming that he wants to do so...)

Whether it's overseas or in the D-League, Thibodeau was very high on Ryan and the only reason he was cut was because they would've been over the cap. That's why there roster is at 13. If Rip Hamilton or Marco Belinelli go down early in the season, there's a good chance that Ryan ends up back with the team, which is why he may opt for the D-League instead of going overseas this season.

Ryan's a great kid and I hope he gets a chance to continue in basketball, but don't fool yourself about his NBA chances. It's a tough business and an extremely difficult nut to crack. Compare Ryan to Alando Tucker, who is taller, stronger, just as athletic and much more offensively gifted -- but he's never been able to stick in the league. (Or use another Tucker in the comparison -- Joah.) Guys like Ryan and the Tuckers can basically only hope that they get the right opportunity at the right time with the right team that has a specific niche that they can fill. The odds are long.

I think a better comparison is Othyus Jeffers. Allen needs to go to the D-League and be a lock down defender and that will be his ticket to getting a cup of coffee/ 10 day contract in the league. Everybody in the D League thinks they can score, but only a handful of guys want to put in the work on D and yes, I have watched far too many Bakersfield Jam games then any sane individual should. But I agree with Fran, the chances are miniscule that he will get a call-up but defense will be his ticket if he does.
