He's got a shot, but he's likely going to play overseas for at least 2 years to work on bringing his offense up to speed. Just too much of a liability there to be an NBA starter.
That said, we may have a Clay Tucker situation here. For those who don't know, Clay has had standing offers for 10-day and league minimum 1-year contracts for about 5-plus years now, and came close to signing one with Cleveland in 2007. However, he's too comfortable, making too much money, overseas. Tucker makes well north of $1 million annually (tax free) and doesn't want to give up that kind of security for a fleeting shot at the NBA.
We've got an NBA player, he just doesn't play in the NBA. Ryan Allen is taller, stronger, and much better defensively than Clay was coming out of college, so he'll get a shot that Clay didn't have immediately. If Clay had been a defensive dynamo and not an offensive assassin, maybe he'd be in the League. But great offensive players are a dime a dozen. Great defensive players are much more rare.
Remember, the Heat didn't win the title until they added Shane Battier and Norris Cole.
