... on the schedule beyond next year.
The series has evolved into a fantastic rivalry and I would hate to see it end after the 2012-13 season.
See if the Bulldogs will be willing to do a home-and-home; I think Brad and Rob are on good enough terms to hammer out a deal.

I see the Panthers wanting to do it. I would think the ball would be in Butler's court. Short travel for both schools is a major plus.

I'm guessing every program in the conference is working to get Butler on their schedule now. I would think Butler will choose the programs they feel will give them the best competition. I like Green Bay, CSU and Valpo's chances the best for this reason.

GB BB, I get your affection for Green Bay. But what's the infatuation with Cleveland State? After all, the Vikings lose four-fifths of their starting lineup next year.
Above all else, I think Butler is seeking increased revenue streams, a greater chance of making the NCAA tournament every year and competition, in that order.
Did you know that Green Bay has only beaten Butler five times since 2003-04?
The conference leaders in that department: Wright State (10) and Milwaukee (9). These two, together with perhaps Valpo, would likely give Butler the best test going forward.

Milwaukee would be a better pick than GB because of the travel part.

We not talking about next years schedule, we're about the year after. I would expect Butler to want to schedule the highest RPI teams possible. CSU has been in the RPI's top 90 5 of the last 6 years. By comparison, Milwaukee hasn't finished that high in the last 6 years. CSU might have the best young player in the conference in Anton Grady. He was dominant down the stretch. CSU continues to recruit well. They might take a step back this year, but everything points to them having continued success.

Makes sense to me, but that doesn't explain why they'd regularly schedule Green Bay. They haven't shown to be a legitimate threat to win the league in over 15 years... And before we crown Green Bay as the next Horizon champion, remember that Green Bay's most recent loss came to Youngstown State, by 17 points.

When you've gone 2-13 against Butler over the last seven seasons, you shouldn't expect the Ted Danson plane.

A lot of it is going to depend on what the A-10 is planning on doing with the number of conference games teams will be required to play. If they remain at 16, there's 3 more OOC games (including the yearly Xavier game) that Butler will be able to schedule. Brad has expressed desire to have a game in the Chicago area every year (since a large number of Butler's alumni are in the Chicago area) when they did make the move, so I would think that the most likely HL candidate to remain on Butler's schedule would actually be Loyola. Depending on what they will likely try to work out with the Northwesterns and Illinois (maybe a United Center/Banker's Life series), Milwaukee and Valpo would probably be the next most likely schools they would look at if they can't get something figured out there.
It will be interesting to see what Butler's mentality is when trying to schedule their OOC schedule since the A-10 is going to have a greater challenge/reward when it comes to winning games in the conference. Brad stated they aren't going to back off the scheduling of big named OOC opponents, but who knows if they'll simply go for more "buy" games or if they'll try to keep something going with one or a few schools from the Horizon League.

Thanks, Irish.
I'm sure we'd love to work something out.
As MU panther said, the ball's in Butler's court.

I think pretty much everyone would be all for continuing the series!
All up to Butler as already said above.

With Butler leaving, the only remaining team with a better record in Horizon League play is Valpo. Sure, that history won't matter much, what the team will be going forward will matter more. Green Bay just had a sophomore named 1st team all-conference, and had freshman on the all-newcomer team in back to back years. (who was the last Milwaukee freshman on the all-new-comer team?) The team returns the 5 players that started when it won 8 of its last 11, including a 12 point win over Butler and a 15 point win over HL Champ Valpo. The team adds Jordan Fouse (ESPN grade 88) and Cole Stefan (ESPN grade 90). The will have just 1 senior next year, and his replacement will practice all season as a RS after averaging 10 pppg and 7 rbg with 57 FG% as a sophomore at EIU. I'm sure if tough to admit, but while your program is stuck going nowhere, Green Bay has built its best team since winning a NCAA at-large birth during Jeff Nordgaard's senior year when this conference was the MCC, and Butler was still a nobody.

Who was the last Milwaukee freshman on the all-newcomer team? Deonte Roberts -- 2007-08.

I think Loyola is a possibility. But I think Northwestern is probably more likely.
Beyond Loyola, I don't foresee anything else.
