According to a tweet from Lance Allen tonight, Larry Reed has passed away. My thoughts and condolences go out to his friends and family.

Was coming on here to write the same thing - one of the coaches told me yesterday.
He had a wonderful, influential life. He was a great man, and he'll be missed.

I can't speak to Larry as a person, but some of the numbers he produced were ridiculously good.
He may have been the best player in the program's history, regardless of classification.
May he rest in peace.

Ironically, I had just sent his card to Marc Mitchell last week, as Marc had offered to help me with Larry to sign his card.

I am old enough and fortunate to remember Larry Reed first as a player. He was just a great all-around athlete and I think of him despite a different era and NCAA affiliation the greatest Panther player of all time.
More importantly he was a wonderful man. A kind, modest person who was an excellent citizen and a loyal and gracious representative of the university. Frankly, I always felt a bit in awe of him and enjoyed seeing him at the games. One of those people you just say was a special and honorable person who will be greatly missed.

Really wish the athletic department would've retired "30" for Reed and Tucker (and McCabe ) sometime in the past few years.

Great catch, Hack.
It's just not the same retiring these numbers posthumously.
Let's not wait another 40 years to retire Clay's jersey, OK?

FYI, former program standouts Kevin Jones, the program's 22nd-leading scorer, and Andy Ronan, the leading scorer on the 1988-89 Division 2 Elite Eight team, also wore the number 30.
That makes at least five key players in UWM hoops history that wore the storied number.
So I began to think that No. 30 had become a so-called legacy ... before being reminded that Jerry Ajami also wore it.

Pat Easterlin and Joe Schultz also wore #30 in the 90s. It's always interesting to look back at who all wore a specific number. Like 44 for example. Tigert pretty much made it his own during his career while Haggerty wears it now. It's also been worn by Dylan Page as a freshman, Steve Wright, Dimitre Dintchev, Michael Hughes, Ray Perine and Rob Kukla since 1987. If you go back a little farther into the 70s, Glen Allen and Kirk Tatge also had the number. So for the most part, its been worn by fairly key players in the program's modern history.

Michael Hughes, Ray Perine and Rob Kukla were also terrific players.
Frankly, that's the second number that should be retired ... for A.T.

Syracuse does the same with #44...they just haven't had anyone worthy of it in awhile
