Very good win but a terrible second half. We played really foolish basketball for most of it. Our players have to be smarter. Detroit has too much talent not to respect them, no matter what the score is. Taking mediocre shots early in the shot clock and being weak with the ball when you have a 26 point lead early in the second half is an invitation to the other team to get back into the game -- an invitation that Detroit happily accepted tonight. We had so many short, empty possessions that should have been avoided if our players had appreciated time and score better. Maybe it wouldn't have mattered if we could hit our free throws down the stretch, but it appears that's not something we can reliably expect with this team.
That aside, it was a great homestand. But note that 5 of our 6 league wins (and 5 of our 7 league games) have been at home. There's a lot of heavy lifting yet to do.

There was a kid in a Rufus King letter jacket walking around after the game giving handshakes to the first row. Does anyone know who that was? I don't know who the kid was, but he was with Marc Mitchell. I believe it was Austin Malone-Mitchell, son of Marc and 2013 recruit.

I kept thinking one thing as the late-game turnovers kept mounting and the late-game free throws kept missing:
"This is exactly like the DePaul game."

I thought the crowd could've help the team out when the lead got down to 12 points.

I thought the crowd could've help the team out when the lead got down to 12 points. Had a short discussion with several fans about that, and then with Rick Costello right before my group left at midnight.

I noticed that Lonnie hasn't been on the bench the last few games. Anyone know why that is? Lonnie had shoulder surgery shortly after the new year. He is currently in one of those contraptions that immobilizes your arm and puts it at a 90 degree angle from your body. Obviously he's not able to move around that much, and they don't want to risk an out of bounds play like the one that destroyed Jeter's little girl's crib at Valpo. Lonnie could get slammed and re-injure his shoulder. So, he's off the bench for the time being. Don't worry, he's OK and still very much a part of the team.

My girlfriend's cousin had wide eyes for a second looking at one of the NBA scouts as he was ranting. I turned around just in time to hear Larry Harris say that Paris Gulley should play for the woman's team because he looks like a girl.
Stay classy, Larry.

It's a fine line, you don't want to bit the hand that feeds you. Jeff and I who sit in section 224 for our center court season tickets, we have some old guys that sit one section next to us. They are there every game (other than the 7 inches of snow) don't clap, don't stand up and don't cheer. Maybe they should put some cheerleaders by the Panther Pit side.

You can blame the fans, BUT UWM SEEMS to lack a "killer instinct". I think that goes to Jeter.

Ryan Allen has a machine while he sleeps, that keeps ice on his ankle. Ryan Allen IS a machine. The only reason opponents score at all is because Ryan Allen allows them to.
