In addition to his unreal ability to dish the rock, Kaylon Williams is now averaging 111.8 points per!!! Yes...... I knew he was even better than we thought: sportschatplace.com/college-basketball/mitch/2012/january/26/wisc-milwaukee/butler/Everyone makes spelling mistakes though.. I just thought that was pretty funny (got the screenshot so I can show my future grandkids though). I like our chances tomorrow even though Butler seems to slowly be creeping back. Those quality non-con games will prepare you, that's for sure.. Our games against Michigan State, Wisconsin and Marquette may prove to be our best "practices" of the year... We are 9-1 at our place and the 1 loss (to UW).... very well could have been a "W". Let's GO PANTHERS. Stealing a line from Cleveland State: NO MAS! (losses) Quick!- look at the article before it gets edited (if it even does). Currently, the betting line is Milwaukee -4. I definitely think it will be a lot closer than the walk in the park we had last year vs. Butler at the Cell....

I think it is pretty impressive to have Kaylon as a leader in assists, considering how poorly this team shoots the ball. With better shooters around him, Kaylon could realistically be averaging 3 more assists per game.

Every point guard would be Nate Archibald if every good pass leading to an open shot was converted. Players miss shots, that's part of the deal. Kaylon is doing a great job getting the ball to his teammates. He can't control what they do next.
He can control the ball. So all the turnovers? Those are pretty much all on him.
The reason point guards are largely judged on their A/TO ratio (and should be) is because every turnover negates every assist. You can't score if your team no longer has the ball.

Kaylon Williams is one of the most competitive basketball players this school has ever seen. It would be foolish to suggest that he's without warts, but I don't believe anybody is doing that.
I'm with Lou and 97 on this one. When your offense essentially promotes a lack of off the ball movement, your ability to get open shots is somewhat limited. Therefore, when you do get those open shots, you sure as hell better be able to make them. It's been clear for months now that we're only going to go as far as our defense takes us. Our offensive efficiency is the most inconsistent in the league by far.
With that said, it would be a colossal disappointment if we didn't win 5 of our last 7 league games, and that gives us a good shot at the #2 seed in the conference.

Williams is at his best when he is driving, he can create a lot of offense that way. When 75% of his shots for the game are behind the arc, there is a problem. It is up to the coaching staff to remind Kaylon that he is out there not to jack up threes but to run the offense. There are only a handful of guards in the Horizon League that can stop Kaylon when he drives to the basket (two or three playing for Cleveland State and Nored) This means that against almost every other Horizon League team Williams is hard to stop when he is doing what he does best.

Congratulations to Kaylon, who's now eighth in the nation in assists with 168 and needs just 22 more to break Marc's single-season record of 189 set in 1992-93.
Will there be a presentation with Marc and Kaylon before the game commemorating this great milestone?

Fantastic accomplishment by Kaylon and proof again that our staff has done a great job recruiting productive kids out of the Juco ranks to supplement our very steady high school recruiting.

From Tom's college basketball notes:
RECORD-SETTER: The last of Kaylon Williams' seven assists for UWM last week in its victory over Cleveland State - a lob to Kyle Kelm for a dunk and a 79-70 lead with 4:35 left - was a record-setter. That gave Williams 346 for his career, moving him past Marc Mitchell as the school's career assists leader in Division 1 (since 1990).
Williams is the ninth player in over 100 years of UWM basketball to compile over 300 career assists, and Williams and Mitchell are the only two to do it in two seasons. Gerard Hardnett (1975-’79) is the school’s all-time assists leader with 448.
Williams leads the Horizon League in assists (6.4 per game), is tied for ninth nationally and the Panthers have won 11 of 13 games in which he has recorded at least seven assists.
"Oh man, it’s a dream," said Williams of his record. "I’ve only had two years here and playing with the guys I’ve played with, I couldn’t do it without them and the coaching staff. And doing it on a night where there were a lot of fans out here supporting us through rough times, it’s truly a blessing.
"Hopefully, I can get (the record) a little higher so nobody breaks mine."
