Was Illinois #1 when we played them in the SS? It turns out Wisconsin is currently #1 -- at least according to Ken Pomeroy's formula: kenpom.com/

Don't think so. North Carolina was I believe after Illinois lost in its regular season finale to Ohio State for its first loss. EDIT: Take that back. Judging by this cool motion graphic, Illinois didn't lose its No. 1 ranking: statsheet.com/mcb/rankings/motion/AP?season=2004-2005

I like how we dropped forty points by losing to a top-40 team on the road.

Yes. The Illini were indeed the #1 ranked team in the country when we played them in the 2005 Sweet 16. That was a tough one to be at. We also played at #2 Kansas earlier that same season... uwmpanthers.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/stats/2004-2005/uwm09.htmlI was lucky enough to attend that game as well. Good thing too, because had I been at the Gasthaus with many of our other OG posters when the Gasthaus tried kicking everyone out while the game was still undecided, I likely would have had to choke a b*tch!

"Alright, everyone out!" yelled someone from behind the counter as the lights came on. "Christmas breaks starts now!" "But we're losing by 7 to Kansas, the No. 2 team in the country," one of us responded, angrily, "and there's still four minutes left." "Who's we?" shot back the other voice, perplexed.

Ever since the first time I heard that story, I haven't had the highest of opinions towards the Gasthaus.

I like how we dropped forty points by losing to a top-40 team on the road. Not sure what you are referring to. We were 99 in Pomeroy's ratings before UNI, and we're 107 now. His ratings take into account how you play as much as who you play, which is why I think they are the best out there. That said, the ratings don't really firm up until January. For example, Wisconsin is very good, but they clearly aren't the best team in the country.

If my memory is right, we played at (then #1) Cincinnati during the Bo Ryan years and lost big time.

Cincinnati was No. 3.
