Interesting factoid I pulled from NCAA.com, as of 11/30
We are currently tied for 277 nationally out of 338 D-1 teams in FT% with 62.1%
the teams we are tied with.....Wisconsin and Butler.
New Hampshire is dead last with 48.4% on 62 attempts

I predict that Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Butler all will finish with a higher FT percentage than they have currently. We're about 15% into the season.

Well lets hope our season percentage rises due to some good FT shooting tonight. My goal for any team is 80% but considering our history I could live with 70% I suppose.

Do you realize that a college basketball team shooting 80% on free throws for a season is about as common as college football teams having a 1,700 yard rusher?
Wisconsin shot something like 82% last year and came within a few hundredths of a percentage of setting the all time record. I don't know where I found the stat but I posted it last year, and as I recall the average for all teams, all-time is well under 70%.
Trust me, missing free throws drives me nuts, too, but 70% as a team would be very hard to complain about.

Most seasons there is no team that shoots 80%
I had a lengthy post on this topic a few weeks ago after our first game, when some members of the board were up in arms over our 73% FT shooting performance. I think many people are oblivious as to what constitutes a good (better than average) season FT%.
According to NCAA.com only two D-1 teams in the entire nation are shooting over 80%, that's out of 338 total teams. Only 116 teams are currently shooting above 70%, and the current D-1 team median FT percentage is 67.6%. If we can shoot above the national median, and be in the top 50% of teams in FT% I'd be a very happy man. That being said, I'd gladly take top 50% in Free-Throws made. If we shoot poorly from the free throw line, we just need to get there that more often to score the same amount of points as a team shooting a better percentage.

I realize no one shoots 80% I said I want my teams to.
I just see no excuse for missing shots that the average person can make. I could go to a court right now and hit 8 out of 10 minimum. Drives me nuts cause its a shot thats easy to practice and is always the same.

Just to make the men feel better the Milwaukee women were 15 - 29 at the "free" throw line yesterday in a six point loss at WMU. Oh yeah, they were also 2 - 15 on threes. Tough day of shooting.

Talking to Jeter after Saturdays game, he seemed almost perplexed about the free-throw woes going on. If he is doing all sort of free-throw drills and doing them every practice, then this is all out of his hands...Especially regarding Kaylon's problems, this might be more psycological then physical...
But honestly, what else can Rob Jeter do? He can coach them up to make free-throws, but it is up to the boys on the court to get it done.

However he could pull players such as Kaylon in the closing minutes if they continue to struggle with free throws. If we are shooting late then we are winning and are players should only be in to ice the game.

When I was a student and had friends as student-athletes, I know they all had bi-weekly visits with university psychologists to work things out. I'd think that continues today.
